Video Honoring Norma Satten Debuts Sept. 26th
Tree Ring Productions interviews Hadley Dale Hall Many of us had the privilege of knowing Norma Satten.  As the years go on, we want folks to appreciate the vision of the woman who was the founding President of CLC and in whose name the Community Service Innovation Award was named.  Hadley Dale Hall, Debby Satten and Rueben Maness of Tree Ring Productions (pictured right) are pictured filming one of the interviews featured.  This video, along with pictures highlighting the contributions of this year's honoree, Anni Chung, will also be part of the event's festivities.  Come join us - purchase tickets here or call (415) 826-3194.

Two People, One Park and a Commitment to Create Community
wood carving - life is beautiful
Cayuga Park was little known, troubled park in the southern part of the City.  That all changed when gardener Demetrio Braceros was assigned to care for the park in 1986.  Known as Demi to everyone in the neighborhood, Braceros started creating his wooden folk art after a storm felled two tall trees in the park. "What I saw was darkness," Braceros said in 2000. "It challenged me. My duty is to make it beautiful."  With the support of Cayuga Improvement Association and area residents, the park has been transformed into a place of beauty, graced with 100's of Demi's sculptures.   Another area resident, Rev. Glenda Hope, has set about extending  that sense of community so that more area residents can grow old in community at the celebration of the park re-opening.

Rev. Glenda Hope (at right), a catalyst for the Cayuga Community Connectors in the neighborhood where she lives, is being honored for nearly 40 years of inspiring work in another neighborhood, the Tenderloin. That work included creation of the Tenderloin Tech Lab and a growing ministry to the poor and homeless.  That led to the creation of SafeHouse for Women Leaving Prostitution.
Read more about Rev. Hope in the SF Chronicle.  You can also join us and her other admirers for a special event on September 25th.  More information about this special event to benefit SafeHouse here

Betty Traynor from St. Francis Square Community Living Campaign Committee was joined by others from CLC for outreach in the neighborhood.  As always, a fun way to sit and visit with friends and neighbors.
Thanks to Mel Simmons for help in getting us set up.  The next Sunday Streets will be Sept. 29th in the Excelsior. (A big gust of wind took our cabana at the end of the day and turned it inside out.  Anyone have a cabana they are not using?)
