Grocery Delivery Starts in the Bayview
The Saint Paul Tabernacle Baptist Church, San Francisco Food Bank, Having Pride Unity, community volunteers and the Community Living Campaign kicked off the Bayview Home Food Delivery Program on June 21, 2013 for seniors 75 and older and people with disabilities in the Bayview. The demand for this service and coming together of resources was important to the community and to the invisible citizens who are in need of nutritional food to age in place.
" We are thankful for the people who stepped up and made sure that this resource is available in the community" Deloris McGee

What is SFHIP? The San Francisco Health Improvement Partnership (SFHIP) is a diverse collaboration designed to improve the health and wellness of all San Franciscans. Abbie Yant, a leader in this effort (at right), addressed a convening of over 350 participants to showcase this effort on June 12th at St. Mary's Conference Center. SFHIP seeks to drive community health improvement efforts, using the San Francisco's Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) as a roadmap. The Plan's development engaged close to 700 community residents and local public health system partners and identified S.F.'s shared health priorities:
- Ensure Safe + Healthy Living Environments
- Increase Healthy Eating + Physical Activity
- Increase Access to High Quality Health Care + Services
The CHIP also identifies goals, objectives, measures, and strategies for each priority. To learn more about this exciting new effort, visit www.sfhip.org. |

Supreme Court Victories and Social Security Challenges
Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) decision impacts more than 1000 areas of federal law, including Social Security. For too long same-sex couples and many of their children have been denied access to Social Security benefits, even though they have contributed to the program throughout their working lives.
Overturning the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) should end this benefit discrimination by enabling the Social Security Administration to allow same-sex spouses to receive the Social Security spousal and survivor benefits they are otherwise entitled to. Next Step - for the Obama administration and Congress to follow the Court's lead and reverse this benefit inequity by urge the Social Security Administration to move quickly to review and revise its policies regarding benefits for same-sex couples. To learn more about these issues, go to the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare at http://www.ncpssm.org.
