Don't Include Cuts to Social Security and Medicare in the "Grand Bargain"
As predicted, President Obama's budget includes the Chained CPI, a new way to calculate the annual cost of living adjustment that amounts to a benefit cut for current and future Social Security beneficiaries. As Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor under President Clinton explained in his 2-minute video , the chained CPI would cut Social Security--hurting seniors and future retirees. VIEW THE VIDEO HERE.
A more sensible solution - "lift the cap" on income subject to Social Security tax.
The focus in California is on President Obama and Senator Feinstein. Senator Boxer has signed on to the Bernie Sanders "Social Security Caucus, which pledges to vote against any cuts to these essential programs. We need Senator Feinstein to do the same.
Call President Obama: (202) 456-1414. Tell him to take the Chained CPI and other cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid OFF the TABLE.
Call Your Senator Feinstein. Tell her to stand up with Senator Boxer and Senator Sanders and join the Social Security Caucus - and vote NO to any cuts. You can make a free call to the Capitol Switchboard, then ask to be connected to Senator Feinstein: 1-877-762-8762 or1-800-826-3688.
Call Senator Boxer and thank her for standing up for Social Security and Medicare. You can make a free call to the Capitol Switchboard, then ask to be connected to Senator Boxer: 1-877-762-8762 or 1-800-826-3688.
Please call, write, or email them TODAY and EVERYDAY!!
And consider participating in CARA's Statewide Lobby Day on May 17th. These meetings are in the legislator's district - your home town - not Sacramento, so everyone can participate. If you would like to join a delegation to meet with your State Assemblymember or State Senator, call our office and find out how you can join others in your area. Contact CARA at (510) 663-4086 or [email protected].
