Outreach News
St. P's Food Basket Collection
On November 9/10 please bring Masa Harina, Sugar, Flour (preferably 5 lb. bags) for the St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry at St. Francis of Assisi. 

Coat & Blanket Collection

Winter is coming - which adds additional stress to those who are homeless.  Our community will be gathering coats (gloves, scarves & hats, too) & blankets to take to Friendly Manor and other organizations.  This weekend, Nov. 2/3 there will be a truck in the parking lot to collect these items which will go to Oakland to help our homeless neighbors keep warmer this winter!

Hike for Shelter Success

The Hike was a huge success thanks to the St. Perpetua community! It was amazing to see all those families out there to support SHELTER, Inc. Many needy families will be served because of our generous community.  

 

Here are a few actual statistics:

 

225 hikers - 64 of them were from the St. Perpetua Community!

1,500 people participated through our fundraising and awareness campaign. Thousands more heard the message.

$117,000 raised

SAGE ACTIVITIES

Re-Scheduled-ROSIE THE RIVETER MUSEUM

This tour that had to be cancelled due to the Federal government shutdown has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 19. We will travel by bus to the museum departing from the upper parking lot at 9:00 a.m. and returning by 3:00 p.m.  Lunch is available in the Assemble Restaurant or you may bring your own to eat on the grounds.  Payment for bus ride is $25;  Museum is free.  
Reservations due by October 31.

Learn more about  WWII Bay Area history by joining us for a bus trip to the wonderful ROSIE THE RIVETER MUSEUM.  Betty, one of the women who became a "Rosie" will speak to us of her experiences before we tour the museum on our own.  This activity is sponsored by SAGE (St. Perpetua Senior Activities Group, etc.) but is open to all adults.  
 

Special Cathedral Crèche Festival Senior Tour

On Saturday, December 14, 10:30 am-1:30 pm tour the Christ the Light Cathedral Chapel which will showcase unique crèche displays by local floral designers and artists, the Cathedral site, and the "Starlight Festival" in the Event Center, which features crèches created by parishes and pastoral centers from the Diocese of Oakland.  There will also be a private lecture on the origins of the crèche, its multicultural means and its importance in the Catholic tradition.  You can even browse the Cathedral Shop for your last minute Christmas shopping.

 

The cost of $20 per person includes catered lunch in the parish hall.  Carpools may be set up leaving from the upper level parking lot.  Reservations must be made by Monday, November 25.

Faith Formation News

FAITH FORMATION CELEBRATES Dias de los Muertos

Our 5th grade faith formation students created an altar to celebrate All Saints Day in the Mexican tradition of Dias de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. Classes made skull masks, tissue paper flowers and saint puppets to honor our family members who have died. 

 

FIRST EUCHARIST PARENT MEETINGS
Parents of children who are preparing to receive their First Eucharist in May of 2014 and are currently enrolled in 2nd grade or higher at St. Perpetua School or Faith Formation are asked to attend one of the parent meetings.

St. Perpetua Concert Series
In celebration of our new space after the modest makeover, St. Perpetua is happy to announce a new concert series. These concerts are family friendly and include free admission (a free-will offering will be collected) and post-concert refreshments. Hope to see you there!

50th Anniversary St. Perpetua School 

This year marks the 50th anniversary of St. Perpetua School. On Saturday, October 26, we celebrated with Mass and a reception attended by many former students, parents, and staff.  Six of the school's nine principals joined in the festivities (Sr. Francis Marie Hansen, Sr. Mary Sevilla, Sr. Joanne Claire, Karen Goodshaw, Kathleen Radecke, and Joan Burman-not pictured).

Advent by Candlelight: An evening of Friendship, Faith and Festivity

 

Advent by Candlelight is an evening for women of the parish to reflect on the start of the Advent season. The Church Hall is transformed with beautiful candlelit tables hosted by parishioners. The evening includes prayer, lighting of the advent wreath, delicious desserts and most importantly a time to celebrate with women of all ages in our community. If you would like more information on hosting a table or make a reservation to attend please contact Kristine Kvochak.

Taste of Kindergarten: an opportunity to learn about the Kindergarten program at St. Perpetua.  Children are welcome and enrollment information will be available.  For more information visit the school website 


Monday, December 16: Advent Day of Renewal
Sr. Molly Neville, SNJM will lead a session after morning Mass (9:30-11:00 a.m.) and one in the evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Reflecting on the main characters of our Advent journey, Sr. Molly will explore Mary and Joseph's mind and heart as they prepared for the coming of Christ.
