Greetings!
We all look forward to the change of pace that summer brings. May the days ahead find you enjoying the company of your family and friends, basking in the beauty of God's creation, time for reading and reflection which will enrich your spirit, and opportunities to look at the world around you with a new lens -- a lens that lets you see how blessed we are and how many blessings we have to share with others.
Father John Kasper, osfs

"Modest Makeover: Church Edition!"
| |
You've seen the shows on HGTV transforming homes that have aged and lost their charm. You can't miss all the house makeovers on Hamlin Road in the past year. Well, now it's our turn to re-paint and improve the house of our worshiping community. A few of the interior improvements and additions we can anticipate in St. Perpetua's version of a "modest makeover" include the Sanctuary Space, Lighting & Electrical, Painting, and Additional Enhancements. Construction will begin on Monday, June 10.

Safe Environment for Children
| |
In an ongoing effort to provide a safe environment for our children, the Diocese of Oakland has mandated that adult volunteers at St. Perpetua Church who work with or are perceived to have a leadership role with children must complete the Shield the Vulnerable training. The Diocese of Oakland has all parishes on a 3-year rotation for this training. It is our "year" for this training; this phase of the program began July 1, 2012, and will be valid until June 30, 2015. Anyone who completed the training prior to July 1, 2012 must now complete the training again.
There are two ways that you can meet this requirement:
- You can take the interactive course at www.shieldthevulnerable.org or
- Attend a live training session here at St. Perpetua on Thursday, June 13, at 7 p.m. in the Religious Resource Center. (Session lasts about 90 minutes)
Please send a copy of the Certificate of Completion, with the date visible, to the parish office by July 15, attn: Kathy. We appreciate your cooperation, and thank you for your continued support of the safety of children. For further information, please contact the office at 925 283-0272.

Parish Support
|
One of the biggest challenges facing St. Perpetua is to predict our revenues, particularly during the summer months. Electronic giving is a program that has been successful at St. Perpetua with over 150 families participating. Your monthly contribution can automatically be charged monthly to your bank card. For those not currently signed up, please consider this method of supporting your parish. Sign up here.
For more information contact Kathy Geddes at 283-0272#207.
Thank you so much for your generosity.

Faith Formation
|
Our Sunday students prayed together at a May crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary at our last class for the school year. All of our classes have concluded. Thank you so much for all of the dedication of our students and especially our parent teachers, traffic coordinators, bakers, childcare providers and classroom helpers. Our Faith Formation program is well supported by your efforts!
Registration packets for Fall 2013 will be sent home the first week of August. Please check the church website during the summer if you need to verify class schedules. Classes will begin Sunday, September 22nd and Tuesday, October 1st.
During the summer please consider if being a Faith Formation teacher is something of interest to you. Our teachers receive a tuition discount, first choice on class time, priority date selection and seating for sacraments AND have the amazing opportunity to share and learn with the children about our faith. We would love to have you join our teaching team.
The Faith Formation office will be closed June 1 - August 15. We will check in throughout the summer via email should you have any questions but we wish you a relaxing and fun summer! We look forward to seeing you at class in the fall.
If you have questions please contact Kristine at 283-0272#204. |

Confirmation Impression
|
Teens in the parish completed their preparation for reception of the Sacramenbt in early May. St. Perpetua then had the joy of celebrating Confirmation twice this year.
Bishop Sylvester Ryan celebrated Mass and confirmed 54 teens on Saturday, May 18 in the morning.
In addition, Father John had received permission from the Bishop's office and confirmed 15 teens at the 5pm parish Mass on Saturday May 25.
