IHTC
Excerpt from one of the videos
With the winter approaching and the perspective of fewer or no clinics, The In Hand Therapy Course is undoubtedly the greatest complement of Jean Luc's clinics.
The IHTC addresses both, riding and in hand techniques. The course is rapidly becoming the most informative, entertaining and efficient program available. For instance, this video sequence is a short segment of the IHTC's second installment training video tape. The title of this DVD, which is exclusive to the IHTC is
"Longitudinal Flexion of the Equine Thoracolumbar Spine ."
 | Straightening The Equine Spine |
The IHTC brings you inside Jean Luc's mind. The strict schedule of a clinic only permits to scratch the surface of Jean Luc's knowledge. However, considering the results that are achieved in one hour lesson, one can imagine the benefices of hour long discussions, and demonstrations that you can replay over and over. Knowing that the program is for riders and trainers eager to learn, Jean Luc opens his mind even further progressively guiding you toward a level of subtlety and sophistication that is the horse's real comfort zone. Jean Luc makes you discover the extent of the refinement and skill that you have intuitively but that is marred by the inaccuracy and unsophistication of traditional equitation.
It is one thing to know about scientific discoveries. It is another thing to succeed their practical application. Many pertinent discoveries turn into riding disaster because new discoveries are applied in reference to old riding and training techniques. The main culprit is the concept of submission. No one can submit a horse's mind to explore an immensely efficient body coordination, but beyond the scope of natural reflexes. Only, understanding, respect and stimulation of the horse's intelligence can efficiently educate the horse. The unique combination of knowledge, riding skill and tremendous experience, which is Jean Luc trademark, helps you achieving such goal as knowledge, experience and skill are present on the screen, the transcripts and the personal exchanges or discussions that you can have with Jean Luc along the course.
Offer to yourself or to someone that you like the Christmas gift that is going to give you "In Hand" the knowledge for success and soundness. Register now for the In Hand Therapy Course.

Every horse moves differently. None move perfectly, especially with a rider on their back. Even minor defects in gait can eventually result in lameness or suboptimal performance. As with human athletes, careful analysis of how a horse moves and the use of an individualized training program can both enhance performance & rehabilitate injuries. Science of Motion is an approach to training & therapy which is based upon identifying & correcting specific gait abnormalities inherent in each horse and equally important, adjusting the rider's posture and position. Jean Luc Cornille, an international level Three-Day Event rider & trainer, has extensively studied equine anatomy and movement. His research has allowed him to develop a method that can be used to help the horse learn to move correctly and efficiently thus resulting in lightness, self-carriage, and the ability to reach its full athletic potential without injury.
Any defects in gait can eventually result in sub-maximized performance or lameness. As with human athletes, careful analysis of how a horse moves and the use of an individualized training program can both enhance performance and rehabilitate injuries. Science of Motion is a new approach to training and therapy, which is based upon identifying and correcting the specific gait abnormalities inherent in each horse to allow the horse to reaching their full athletic potential. Chazot Thoughts
(Helyn Found Me)
I rub the back of his head with my nose. I like this area where his hairs are long gone. He touched my nose gently thinking, why do you need to remind me that I lost my hairs? You know, I am so glad that you are with us but the truth is; it is Helyn who found you. That statement piques my interest. As you know by now I can read his mind. His very first thought about me, the one that made me realize that I had this ability, was quite puzzling, "Oh shit, he is really good". I remember that I wondered, for a while, why it was perplexing for him to think that I was a good horse. Tonight, his mind is on the events that brought us together and I listen carefully; I might finally understand the meaning of his strange first thought.
As you know, he sometimes comes in the evening, pulls a chair in front of my stall door and we spend time together. Sometimes he comes with his laptop and a few carrots, other times just the carrots. Once I tried to eat his computer and he told me, well, if it tastes good, you can have it. This thing never works. I would do a better job if I were typing my studies on a carrot. His mind was now on the event preceding our first encounter and I was deeply interested. Helyn lost a horse that she really liked. The horse came to the training center to be retrained and sold. Helyn hoped to keep him. We offered to buy him but the owner asked for a ridiculous price. In fact I refused to present it for sale at the price the owner asked because it was largely overpriced and the horse left shortly after. Helyn was very depressed. For months she stayed away from the barn, avoiding all discussions about horses.
One night, I arrived home from a clinic and found her looking at videos of thoroughbreds for sale. I was happy to see her renewed interest and we watched a few videos together. It was quite depressing; either the horses were very small without much athletic ability, or they were lame. Helyn did not give up. Month after month she watched thousands of videos. One evening she was on the porch of the house waiting for me. She simply said, "I found my horse". It was you. The video was incredibly bad. The camera work was jumpy and the footing was terrible. The deep mud and large puddles disturbed the few steps that you took when you were not walking on your two rear legs. The girl holding the lunge line was terrified. You looked frightened too. I told Helyn that you appeared to be athletic and charismatic but the video barely displayed one or two strides of trot. The next day, Helyn had put together the few strides of trot that she picked up at different sequences of the video, she looped them over and over and I was able to see a sample of your trot. Your canter was breathtaking but your trot was average. However, you looked relatively sound. More because I was happy to see Helyn coming back to the horse world than because I was positively impressed by the video, I suggested that maybe we should go to see you. I was thinking that you were stabled at Ocala, which is two driving hours away, or Tampa, which was even closer. Helyn told me, "He is at Seattle, when do we go"? We were living in Florida and you were at the exact diagonal opposite of North America. My first thought was no way. However, I looked at my frequent flyers program and I had enough miles to pay for two tickets. I looked at it as a nice weekend together. I was convinced that we will see a nice horse but not really better than a horse that we could find next door. So we flew across America to see you. READ ON

Navicular
Short Video Excerpt

"Four Cases of Navicular Syndrome" Introduction Under the title, "Four Cases of Navicular Syndrome", a quote of Arthur Clarke say, "The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible." Considering the knowledge available in 1986 when the first and successful rehabilitation from navicular syndrome was completed, the technique applied ventured a little into the impossible. It was entirely based on veterinary researches but the findings were pertinent and novel. Today, advanced research studies fully corroborate the principles presented in this document. However, even if immensely effective, the technique remains largely unknown because it shakeups conventional thinking. Even if progresses have been made in the matter; the general consensus remains influenced by the thought that back problems are only compensation for hock pain or other musculoskeletal disorders. At the contrary, in each case, we have corrected the limb kinematics abnormality causing the development of navicualr syndrome addressing the vertebral column dysfunction that engendered the limb kinematics abnormality. The author of the scientific discovery that has permit these successful rehabilitations wrote, "The disease is therefore, considered to be reversible" (Ostblom, 1982). However, the journey is difficult and demands equitation and a work in hand resolutely more elaborated than the principles commonly emphasized. If you feel that your horse's soundness merits venturing in a better world. This video is for you. A few testimonials on our new DVD Navicular Syndrome : I've watched it 4 times so far. It is fabulous. As usual, a lot to absorb and process. But well worth the effort. I really liked the way you focused the attention to the incorrect movement and then the correct movement....where to look and compare..and then the explanation with the actual vertebrae to show exactly what is happening. Finally, the resolution to the problem through the video of the proper movement of the horse, puts it all together... It made things much clearer for me. B.N (IHTC member)
Watched the dvd for the first time... packed with so much information, paused & reversed many times to absorb as much as possible... About to watch for the 2nd time, certain there will be many more viewings! Jean Luc & Helyn, to say it's a job well done is a vast understatement! D.P. (IHTC member)

Kissing Spine
DVD Video
Kissing Spine
By
Jean Luc Cornille
This DVD shows the process of reeducating a horse with Kissing spine
Kissing spine is unfortunately a relatively frequent problem with very few medical solutions. One is invasive surgery, with all the risks related to surgery. The other is injections which might provide transient relief but do not cure the problem nor teach the horse to live with the abnormality.
Adequate gymnastic is in fact the horse's sole hope. The reeducation is precise, demands great consistency, but is not outrageously difficult. In fact, the difficulty is more turning the back to old habits.
"A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be." (Albert Einstein) The horse's thoracolumbar spine can be reeducated addressing the horse's thoracolumbar column as it really works and not how conventional equitation thinks it should works
While recently, new surgical techniques are offering a solution to the problem of "Kissing Spine," The aftermaths of invasive surgery are raising serious questions by comparison to a non-invasive approach that only take a few months.
This horse was diagnosed with kissing spine between L4 and L5. As a result of the pain related to the situation, the horse had developed serious behavior problems. The kissing spine situation was approached addressing the back muscle imbalance that placed the spine into damaging alignment. The reeducation was fully done in motion. It was physical therapy.
It took three months for the horse to realize that he was working pain free. His bad behavior vanished as the comfortable working attitude became consistent. Within six months the horse was kindly, happily, and beautifully working. He was ready to go home.
This helped tremendously with my KISS rescue a while back :) he now moves permanently with a slightly lifted back by his own choice. You ROCK!" G.G.
