 CEF Small Group Ministry Showcase  
Interested in starting a Small Group Ministry? CEF will partner with Cokesbury to offer a Small Group Ministry Showcase at First UMC, Elmhurst, Thursday, September 15 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Examine new resources for Advent, Confirmation (including Confirm and Collaborate), Disciple Fast Track, and other small group studies. Pick up a few free samples. Engage with speakers who already lead successful Small Group ministries in local congregations. You may even meet an author!

Hymnal Revision Committee Members Needed
Discipleship Ministries is accepting applications for committee members who will revise The United Methodist Hymnal with a new collection of hymns and rituals that allows United Methodists to more deeply engage as disciples and proclaimers of the gospel through their singing and worship. Click here for more information. New UMVIM Coordinator


The North Central Jurisdiction United Methodist Volunteers in Mission board is honored to announce that 
Tammy Kuntz will be the new coordinator. She will begin part-time training in November and on January 1, 2017 will assume her role as UMVIM-NCJ coordinator, succeeding Lorna Jost who is retiring after 
13 years of service. 

UM Foundation Grants
The United Methodist Foundation of the Northern Illinois Conference announces the 
2017 grants cycle.
Funds are typically granted for new or expanded ministries or projects  - seed money to begin the new direction. Grants generally range from $500 - $2,000.

Flood buckets needed for Louisiana
 
The MMDC has helped volunteers from Ohio and Illinois assemble 200 cleaning buckets to add to the recent 2,000 plus shipment for Louisiana.
The Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC) in Chatham, IL., has sent out 2,016 cleaning buckets to UMCOR in Baldwin, Louisiana in response to the catastrophic flooding that has damaged thousands of homes and properties. MMDC volunteers are now working on replenishing the supplies for buckets.  

If you would like to help replenish supplies, you can donate monetarily or with materials. Donate online or mail to MMDC PO Box 56, Chatham, IL 62629. Click here for the cleaning bucket supplies list. Or you can make donations directly to UMCOR.org.

Several churches will be bucket drop-off sites:

Aurora District:
  • Channahon, 24751 West Eames St., Channahon (call 815-467-5275 for times) 
  • New Lenox, 339 W. Haven Ave., New Lenox, 60451 (Mon. thru Fri. 9am to 2pm only, ring door bell for assistance)
Elgin District:
  • Barrington, 98 Algonquin Rd., Barrington (Mon-Fri 9am-4pm)
  • Elmhurst, First, 232 S York Rd, Elmhurst (no Wednesdays, ring door bell for assistance and direction)
  • Libertyville, 429 Brainerd Ave., Libertyville (call 847-362-2112 for times)

Indiana needs disaster relief teams 
Due to the flooding disaster in St. Joe County, Indiana (South Bend) a request is being made for Early Response Teams. To date, 40 homes were destroyed and more than 900 homes damaged. These numbers are expected to increase. 

Full teams of 7 persons are requested but partial teams may be connected with another group to make a full team. If you are not trained, but are interested in being trained and can find 6 others, a special training session can be held. (ERTs must be trained and badged). The cost begins at $55.00 per person depending on the location of training. Teams are needed as soon as possible, so please contact Mike Irvine at: mike.irvine@inumc.org, or (812) 554-0337. Welcoming worship and gathering for new Chicago Southern District Superintendent

Join us as we welcome Rev. Dr. Jacques Conway as the new Chicago Southern District Superintendent on Sunday, September 18 at 3pm at Faith UMC in Orland Park. Download the flyer.
 
Bishop Sally Dyck has announced that Rev. Conway will be the new D.S. effective September 1, 2016 following Bishop Tracy S. Malone who served in the role since 2011.

Spiritual Congress is presented by the NICUMM for spiritual development, training and fellowship with brothers from around the conference.
