West Virginia Disaster Relief
Please continue to hold the families and churches that were ravaged by the floods throughout southern West Virginia in your prayers. In addition, spiritual care teams who would like to come to serve for a short term during the first half of August are needed.
Teams are also still needed in the field. When your teams or individuals indicate their willingness to serve, we will coordinate with them to meet their needs for housing, meals, support.
UMW Scholarships
The Northern Illinois Conference United Methodist Women offer a one-time scholarship each year for a woman that is currently enrolled in continuing education to become an ordained minister, deaconess or missionary. Click here for the form. The deadline is Aug.1, 2016.
UM Foundation Grants
The United Methodist Foundation of the Northern Illinois Conference announces the 2017 grants cycle.
Funds are typically granted for new or expanded ministries or projects - seed money to begin the new direction. Grants generally range from $500 - $2,000.

Bishops approve plan special commisson
Meeting in Chicago last week, the Council of Bishops' Executive Committee approved a framework for implementing the Commission on A Way Forward and took a step toward a called session of the General Conference in 2018.
The Council acknowledged that the landscape of the church has changed dramatically since the General Conference approved the Council's proposal in May, but re-affirmed their commitment to lead the church forward. Read the full statement.

Because you will have the opportunity to attend transformative sessions like the one led by newly elected Bishop Tracy S. Malone and Rev.Dr. Young-Mee Park on Valuing Diversity (Cultural Competency): Equipping Leaders in a Multicultural World.
This is a topic that is relevant more than ever to our church today. It will explore the core competencies of cultural diversity, the best practices in the appointment process, the equipping of leadership (lay and clergy), and the leveraging of resources to help build greater capacity for reaching more people, younger people, and more diverse people. Pension board changes its name
The United Methodist Board of Pension and Health Benefits has changed its name to Wespath Benefits and Investments, starting July 18. The "Wes" part of the name honors John Wesley, Methodism's founder, and "path" refers to the agency's goal of providing participants and institutional clients with a path toward personal health, investment and retirement objectives.
