What draws people to church? Poll has insights
Opportunities for spiritual growth and authentic community are top motivators for young adults to attend church, says a survey conducted by Barna Group on behalf of United Methodist Communications. Barna's findings resonate, say some newly baptized United Methodists.

Media Resource Center
The Conference Media Resource Director Susan Gieseler officially begins her retirement July 1, 2016.
During a period of transition while decisions are made regarding the future of the Resource Center, Susan will continue to work part-time, and plans to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can find her hours posted on the at: www.umcnic.org/media.

UMW Scholarships
The Northern Illinois Conference United Methodist Women offer a one-time scholarship each year for a woman that is currently enrolled in continuing education to become an ordained minister, deaconess or missionary. Click here for the form. The deadline is Aug.1, 2016.
UM Foundation Grants
The United Methodist Foundation of the Northern Illinois Conference announces the 2017 grants cycle.
Funds are typically granted for new or expanded ministries or projects - seed money to begin the new direction. Grants generally range from $500 - $2,000.

North Central Jurisdictional Conference
The North Central Jurisdictional Conference of The United Methodist Church will convene July 13-16 at the Peoria Civic Center.
Gathering together under the theme, "Living Together...In Unity...Amid Diversity...for Ministry," the regional assembly, which is held every four years, is guided by the scriptural words of Ephesians 4:1-16.
Four new bishops of the church will be elected to succeed the four who are retiring - Bishop Michael Coyner (Indiana), Bishop Deborah Kiesey (Michigan), Bishop John L. Hopkins, (East Ohio) and Bishop Jonathan Keaton (Illinois Great Rivers). In all, 17 candidates are vying to be their successors.
The Conference begins with Opening Worship at 10am on Wednesday, July 13 and concludes with the Consecration Service on Saturday, July 16 at 10am in the Peoria First UMC sanctuary.

Over 3,000 pounds of supplies donated
The Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, Ill., sends many thanks for the generous donations of 3,033 pounds of school supplies collected at the 2016 Annual Conference! That's a lot of pencils, sharpeners and notebooks!

Thanks to you, the Bishop's Appeal raised over $56,000 (and still counting) for the new Rosecrance Lakeview counseling center and recovery residence, with the most funds raised by constituents in the Rockford District.
