United Methodist safe after Istanbul attack
Thomas Kemper, leader of the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, who was caught up in the attack at Istanbul Ataturk Airport is calling for a show of solidarity in response.
Kemper was in transit from Berlin on Turkish Airlines on June 28 - waiting in a lounge for a flight to Japan - when the terrorist
 attack began.
He thought about people who live in places where they experience such fear "every day and every night," Kemper told United Methodist News Service in a June 29 phone interview. Read more.

Many United Methodist Churches marched in Chicago's 47th annual Pride Parade last Sunday which came in the wake of the horrific mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

Media Resource Center 
The Conference Media Resource Director Susan Gieseler officially begins her retirement July 1, 2016. 
 During a period of transition while decisions are made regarding the future of the Resource Center, Susan will continue to work part-time, and plans to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can find her hours posted on the at: www.umcnic.org/media.

UMW Scholarships
The Northern Illinois Conference United Methodist Women offer a one-time scholarship each year for a woman that is currently enrolled in continuing education to become an ordained minister, deaconess or missionary. Click here for the form. The deadline is Aug.1, 2016.

Flood relief efforts in West Virginia

Last week, parts of West Virginia saw 9 inches of rain in a matter of hours, causing some of worst flooding the state has seen in three decades.

United Methodists are helping with relief efforts in various ways, including churches that served as shelters first, and then became donation and distribution centers. Read more...

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is working with the West Virginia Annual Conference disaster response team helping distribute hundreds of cleaning buckets and health kits. Read more...

Thanks to you, the Bishop's Appeal raised over $56,000 (and still counting) for the new Rosecrance Lakeview counseling center and recovery residence, with the most funds raised by constituents in the Rockford District.
