United Methodists Can Now Take Full Advantage of Newly Revamped Site

The General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) recently settled a disagreement
with one of the founding partners of UMCmarket.org.

During the process, UMCmarket.net was
developed so that the program did not cease operation. In the settlement, GCFA regains full
rights of UMCmarket.org, the online shopping portal for United Methodists.

At www.UMCmarket.org, United Methodist shoppers can browse through and shop with a vast
array of online vendors and earn money for their church or United Methoidst Group of their choice.

Making Lemons out of Lemonade

As a community engagement event, Steward UMC hosted a lemonade stand and bake sale at the Steward Fest on August 2. We raised $430 for the Imagine No Malaria.

Especially, the children of Summer Enrichment Adventures who came from our community hosted the lemonade stand. We work with the community and celebrate with the community.

Registration Open - "What We Can Do"
Bishop Sally Dyck

September 9 is only three weeks away when we will

meet together to discuss:

"What We Can Do"

As you know, space is limited so please understand that you should register as soon as possible; we will not be able to accept walk-ins. Those who are not actively serving will be notified the week before the event if there will be space for them to attend.

After you register you will receive an automated email with your confirmation number as well as a "link" to a survey that will be used in preparation for the event. If you have already registered, received the email confirmation but didn't notice the survey link please reopen the email and scroll to the bottom of the page to access this link. We have recently redesigned the automated email to make the survey link easier to find for those yet to register.

If you have any dietary or accessibility needs please let us know by September 2, 2014. Contact either Susan Gieseler (847-931-0710 or [email protected]) or Marva Andrews (312-346-9766 ext. 702 or [email protected]).

Remember, the purpose is to grow in our capacity to minister to all people (LGBTQi) and not to debate human sexuality. I look forward to having this time together.

~Bishop Sally Dyck

Native American Acts of Repentance - Sept. 20

In response to the call to the larger Church to be in community with native peoples around the globe, our Northern Illinois Annual Conference will begin a process of change and growth called "Acts of Repentance."

The goals for this process are for individuals and congregations to listen, learn, repent, and act.

On Sept. 20 at Community UMC, 20 N. Center St., Naperville, we'll begin the process by learning where Native Americans have been and continue to be present, including the challenges many Native Americans face each day.

We'll hear from:
  • Bishop Sally Dyck, resident Bishop of the NIC
  • Rev. Glen Chebon Kernell, Executive Secretary of Native American, Indigenous Ministries, Justice & Relationships
  • Panel of presenters from the American Indian Center, Midwest Soarring, and the UMC will conduct a short listening session
  • Special keynote by Laura Grizzlypaws

Attendees are invited to register online. The event is from 8:30am-11:30am.

Please note that those attending are especially invited to stay for the Midwest Soarring powwow to be held on the grounds of the Naper Settlement (less than 1 mile from the event). Visit www.midwestsoarring.org.
