Day of Friendship Spanish Camp - June 28

On June 28, our Spanish as a Second Language class invites all ages to participate in a one-day inter-generational experience we are calling Spanish Camp.

It brings together those who have little or no prior experience of the Spanish language and Spanish speaking congregations as they together celebrate and learn. The day will be held on Saturday, June 28 at Barrington First United Methodist Church (98 Algonquin Road, Barrington, IL) from 8:30 am - 4 pm.

This one-day experience is a slightly abbreviated version of the six-week course that is used in local congregations and features active learning through music, culture, drama, and worship. Persons of all ages are invited to journey together through this learning experience. Click here for more info.

To register on-line visit our Eventbrite page at www.tinyurl.com/ssldia. Although it indicates that the event is "free," the cost of the event is still $8 per person and $20 per family.

Imagine No Malaria

How to host a Culver's fundraiser

On June 9 of Annual Conference Imagine No Malaria received 10% of all Culver's purchases when the UMC was mentioned. We raised $260 from people eating meals and snacks during annual conference. Thank you for participating!

Culver's and many other restaurants and fast-food establishments are excited to partner with non-profits for fundraisers. It is a great way to engage the community in your fundraising efforts and to meet your pledge.

To host an event contact the manager of the restaurant and share about Imagine No Malaria. You can use this document to provide non-profit status with the business and information about where to send the checks.

Once the business agrees, publicize the event at church, in the community and to your friends and family. Encourage the church to share the event with everyone they know and to go to the restaurant the day of the event. You can even have a church meeting there that day. Plan to be present at the restaurant the day of the event to hand out information about Imagine No Malaria (order brochures here shop.umc.org for free) and your local church.

Child Poverty Campaign Launches at Annual Conference

In alignment with the mission of the NIC Conference to foster vital congregations and changed communities, the NIC Board of Church and Society in partnership with United Voices for Children has launched a two year Child Poverty Campaign.

Each local congregation is encouraged to participate in this campaign by accepting a local congregational challenge. Designate a child advocate, lift up the concerns of children as they relate to 1) health and nutrition, 2) education, and 3) freedom from violence, and educate your congregation and local community about the complex issues surrounding child poverty.

For further information about the campaign and the congregational resources available and/or register as a Child Advocate visit www.umcnic.org/churchandsociety.
Does God  Bless Interreligious Dialogue?

The Ninth Annual celebration of the agreement between the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago and the No rthern Illinois Conference was held on June 12, 2014 at the Villa Park Muslim Education Center.

The topic for this year was "Does God Bless Interreligious Dialogue?" While previous years have focused on joint efforts around social issues, this year was to probe more deeply into the theological understandings of God and God's people that allow us to hold to certain truth claims while continuing to be in dialogue together. Capturing our History

In recognition of our 175th Annual Conference, the Committee on Archives and History is launching a wiki site that will be dedicated to collecting the basic information and history of our churches, past and present.

Our initial steps are simple. However, over time we wish to expand this information to include persons and significant events in the life of the Northern Illinois Conference.

We need your help with this initial step. Please provide us with some basic information and history on your congregation by filling out the requested information online by clicking here. If you cannot answer all the questions or do not have a photograph, simply provide us with what you have. For more information contact Keck Mowry at keckmowry@me.com. Thank you and happy 175th anniversary!
