Imagine No Malaria at Annual Conference

Last June at Annual Conference we accepted a motion to raise $1 million dollars for Imagine No Malaria, the comprehensive effort by the UMC to eradicate death by malaria on the continent of Africa.

As we began the 2014 Annual Conference, the total amount raised and pledged was at $811,000 ; of which $711,000 was from multi-year fundraising goals set by 107 churches in our conference.

Some of your events have been: chili dinners, UMW brunches, bean bag toss,  cook book sales,  filling bottles of water with dimes,  dodgeball tournaments, basketball shoot outs, lemonade stands, partnering with local sports teams (White Sox), partnership with local businesses like Panera, Culver's or Ten Thousand Villages.

Bishop Lim presents Bishop Dyck with a generous donation to INM
At Annual Conference the Bishop's appeal raised over $42,000 (with Dekalb winning the traveling trophy with $14,271 raised) and we were honored to receive a $10,000 donation from the South Korean delegation.

As Annual Conference 2014 comes to an end, our task force is excited to announce we have raised over $868,000!

The work of Imagine No Malaria in Northern Illinois is not done. There is still $150,000 to raise to meet our goal. What would happen if every church donated or made a multi-year pledge? Today is a chance for churches that have not made a pledge to help push our goal over the TOP. For lots of resources and information on just how to do that visit  www.umcnic.org/imaginenomalaria.

Child Poverty Campaign Launches at Annual Conference

In alignment with the mission of the NIC Conference to foster vital congregations and changed communities, the NIC Board of Church and Society in partnership with United Voices for Children has launched a two year Child Poverty Campaign.

Each local congregation is encouraged to participate in this campaign by accepting a local congregational challenge. Designate a child advocate, lift up the concerns of children as they relate to 1) health and nutrition, 2) education, and 3) freedom from violence, and educate your congregation and local community about the complex issues surrounding child poverty.

For further information about the campaign and the congregational resources available and/or register as a Child Advocate visit www.umcnic.org/churchandsociety.
Capturing our History

In recognition of our 175th Annual Conference, the Committee on Archives and History is launching a wiki site that will be dedicated to collecting the basic information and history of our churches, past and present.

Our initial steps are simple. However, over time we wish to expand this information to include persons and significant events in the life of the Northern Illinois Conference.

We need your help with this initial step. Please provide us with some basic information and history on your congregation by filling out the requested information online by clicking here. If you cannot answer all the questions or do not have a photograph, simply provide us with what you have. For more information contact Keck Mowry at keckmowry@me.com. Thank you and happy 175th anniversary!
