Come together for Summer of Faith - Action Kick Off
More than a dozen United Methodist clergy joined Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel at a press conference to kick off Summer of Faith to promote messages of peace across the city.

As Memorial Day weekend officially kicks off summer, and a time when violence escalates, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is asking churches, faith leaders, businesses, community groups and block clubs to unite and organize city-wide anti-violence activities this Friday, May 23 from 7pm-9pm to promote peace.

More than 14 United Methodist clergy attended the Mayor's press conference on Wednesday morning announcing the Summer of Faith - Action kick off.

Barbecues, neighborhood walks, prayer vigils, sports/activities for youth, rallies, block club parties, choir performances, and church services, were just some of the ways mentioned to make a difference.

Several Churches have already begun organizing. United Church of Rogers Park has planned a cook out this Friday evening between 7-9 pm. All are invited for "Fun, Fellowship and Hot Dogs" (see flyer attached).

Generation To Generation Church (g2g) is organizing a "Women Prayer Walk in the community" this Friday from 7pm to 8pm to interact and pray with the community at Rowan Park and The East Side Plaza (the local Shopping Center in the community). Other churches are in the planning stages.

We invite all United Methodists to pray for a safe weekend and summer in our communities and to organize to promote this peace.
