"When I was fifteen years old I nearly died (of malaria)". . . is how Rev. Amos Oladipo begins the story of his battle with malaria.
You can watch a video of him sharing the story on Vimeo and read the excerpt below.
Imagine No Malaria - Rev. Oladipo
"That night I had a temperature, my body was so hot that I started to vomit. That is what caused my parents to be sacred, and they called the neighbors to help. I survived the night, but that morning they had to take me to another doctor, a 'native doctor'...in order to give me some other medicine."
"...(having malaria) was a kind of terrible experience that I don't think anybody should have."
"...(In Nigeria and across Sub-Saharan Africa) people don't know what to do to be protected (from) these mosquitoes. But when they know what to do, they do not have the resources or the means to protect themselves. The idea of Imagine No Malaria is that it will go a long way to save lives. There are ways this deadly disease can be prevented. Imagine No malaria is one way we can walk together and say that (death by this) disease can be eradicated on the plant. I believe if it can be done in the U.S. it can be done everywhere in the world."
Rev. Amos Oladipo is the Co-Chair of the NIC Imagine No Malaria Taskforce and pastor at Africa Community Church. He is originally from Nigeria.
