Peace with Justice grants deadline approaching 
 
Jan. 10 is the deadline to apply for a Peace with Justice grant from the United Methodist General Board of Church & Society (GBCS). Click here for more info.

GBCS Grants for racial/ethnic ministries
 
Applications for grants up to $10,000 to help local United Methodist churches build ministries that strengthen and support racial and ethnic church concerns are due on Jan. 15. Click here for info.   

Board Members Needed 

Prisoner Release Ministry is seeking 3-6 new board members in 2014. Click here if interested. Also seeking a Job Developer.  
Apportionment Giving

As of December 31, 359 congregations and 2 New Faith Communities have contributed over $5.5 million through Apportionments and almost $650,000 in second-mile, designated giving.  

 

A total of 144 churches have already submitted 100% (or more!) of their Apportionments. Click here to see the complete list of churches.

 

**The postmark deadline for all 2013 contributions is  

Friday, January 10. **

 

We hope to receive an additional $260,000 over 2012 (for a total of $6.7 million) in order to end the year strong and meet our conference's share of the General Church Apportionments. NCC Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.

How is the Message of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King's Relevant for Christians Today?

Author Edward Gilbreath will talk about his new book "Birmingham Revolution" at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, in North Central College's Koten Chapel at Kiekhofer Hall, 329 E. School St.

Gilbreath's book explores the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from Birmingham Jail" 50 years after its publication, showing its profound implications for our society today.

Gilbreath is an award-winning journalist who serves as an editor at large for Christianity Today magazine and as the executive director of communications for the Evangelical Covenant Church. Click here for more information on this and upcoming NCC events including other MLK tributes.

2013 Apportionments and Rainbow Covenant Update

 

 

Churches that desire to receive Rainbow Covenant recognition for 2013 must postmark all contributions by January 10, 2014 and mail them to Northern Illinois Conference, PO Box 66883 Chicago, IL 60666-6883.  

 

Note that four projects have become inactive since 2012 (Marcy Newberry Association, Emma Norton Services, Andean Youth Project, and Total Health Awareness Team). For a listing of all current Rainbow Covenant projects, please click here. 

 

Rainbow Covenant Open for New Applicants
   

 

For ministries wishing to be added to the list of Rainbow Covenant Advances, please use this application. The deadline is Jan. 31, 2014. For those already in the Rainbow Covenant, you do not need to re-apply.
