Warning: Scammers still using bishop names
Scam artists are continuing to call and email people impersonating Bishops, conference leaders and others and asking for money.
In most cases, they'll claim they need money for an "emergency" to help a relative in another country.
Even if they use the Bishop's name or someone from our Conference, do not send money and do file an incident report with the police. Read more....

United Methodist Communicators Annual meeting in Chicago Oct. 25-27 Register today!
The annual meeting of the United Methodist Association of Communicators is in Chicago this year from Oct. 25-27 at the Palmer House.
All local church communicators are encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity for anyone who works on church communications! Tim Schraeder, church communication specialist and social media guru, is the keynote speaker.

Young Adults- Apply to Attend Relevance Lead in Phoenix, Arizona!
 The NIC Young Adult Committee is paying for the registration of young adults to attend the Relevance Lead Conference January 26-29, 2014! All attendees will be expected to come prepared to present an 18 minute talk on a topic they feel represents the best of what their communities are doing to bring new life to the Church and realize God's kingdom on Earth.
For priority consideration apply by Oct. 9 to meet the early bird registration which includes housing and some meals. Participants are expected to acquire their own funds for travel expenses ... but some additional scholarship may be available for travel.

 No Guns in Places of Worship
Representatives with the Illinois Councila against Handgun Violence will be in Springfield next week demanding the Illinois General Assembly prohibit the carrying of concealed weapons in places of worship. Under the new concealed-carry law in Illinois, churches are not listed as exempt and people will be able to carry guns into places of worship. Join the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence along with thousands of faith leaders and click here to sign the petition for churches and click here for individuals. Missionary Visit
Missionary David Makobo N'shikala from the Democratic Republic of Congo will be itinerating in our Conference on October 27-November 9. Mr. Makobo is a missionary of the General Board of Global Ministries who will be serving in Senegal. Mr. Makobo is currently the Dean of the Agricultural School at Katanga Methodist University.
His responsibilities will include; working with farmers to grow food in poor soil with the use of modern technology for food production, working with church leadership through the implementation and use of modern agriculture tools and methods as well as working with VIM teams.

Congratulations to GBHEM scholarship recipients
The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry celebrates that the Office of Loans and Scholarships will be awarding over 2,500 students a total of $5 million in award money for 2013, including nearly 40 from the Northern Illinois Conference!
Thank you for your support in recognizing United Methodist Student Day, World Communion Sunday and Native American Sunday which help fund a portion of our loans and scholarships. The remaining funds for these awards come from gifts, annuities and endowments GBHEM has invested and administered for decades.
