End of an Era for
the United Methodist Reporter

We are sad to report UMR Communications (UMRC) which publishes the United Methodist Reporter and our Conference edition is shutting down the presses.

The UMRC board reluctantly but unanimously voted on May 16 to close during a tearful meeting at the nonprofit's Dallas office. The board said they could find no viable plan for reversing financial losses of recent months. The last newspaper will be mailed out May 31.

NIC Communications is seeking an alternative option to print the Conference paper...look for the new edition this summer.  Read the full story...

Movement begins for
Chicago Urban Strategy

Urban Strategy Summit Chicago
Watch the video on the Urban Strategy Summit
On Change the World weekend, more than 400 United Methodists gathered at a high school on Chicago's south side to start a movement.

"This is just the beginning," said Bishop Sally Dyck at the Chicago Urban Strategy Summit at South Shore International College Preparatory High School on May 18. "Churches have already been involved in their communities but people get weary. But when they know other people are supporting them, partnering with them and learning from each other, that's what creates a movement." Read the full story...

Kit Challenge Met!

Thank you to all who have pledged or are collecting for the kits at Annual Conference. These kinds of hygiene kits are essential in responding to natural disasters, like the ones that occurred this week. These kits are often the first way we show how we care.

For those bringing items to Annual Conference, look for the mission truck that will be parked in front of the Mega Center on Wednesday starting around 8am. Please bring items on Wednesday if that is possible.

Again, a huge THANK YOU to all who helped to meet and exceed the kit challenge. If you or your congregation has not yet had a chance to participate and would still like to help purchase items, we are still accepting WIDE-TOOTHED combs, many of which can be purchased in bulk at discount stores like Dollar Tree.
