The Elgin District welcomed Bishop Sally Dyck on Sunday, April 28.
Her day began with two services at the Barrington UMC with a very uplifting sermon, followed by a fellowship brunch and conversation. She spent the early afternoon at Luz de Cristo in Elgin with lively worship and celebration!
Bishop sally gave encouraging words and Prayers for the children and the growing congregation. Late afternoon was spent with a core group of Elgin District Lay and Clergy leaders and kindred spirits at the First UMC of Palatine.
The conversation and dialogue on the opportunities and challenges in our District context was energizing and the popcorn and refreshments were enjoyed by all.
~Rev. Oscar Carrasco, Elgin Dist. Supt.

Bishop visits U.S. - Mexican Border
As the United States Senate prepares to consider a major bill on immigration policy reform, Bishop Sally Dyck visited the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego this week, where she joined other bishops from around the U.S., Africa, Asia and Europe.
On May 7, Bishop Dyck's group crossed the border into Mexico to the Plaza del Bordo, an open-air migrant encampment to distribute health kits to the community.
"At the Tijuana River, it's like a demilitarized zone (DMZ); they live on the resources of the river and it's a dangerous place for them to be," Bishop Dyck says of the powerful experience. "Health kits for people who are displaced for whatever reason are a life-saver. We just can't make enough of them!" Read full story [...]
