The theme was: How do we fulfill our obligation to our neighbors?  Working together to end urban violence.

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, Bishop Dyck expressed the importance of coming together, understanding one another's faith and working side by side with our Muslim neighbors.

The dinner was held at First UMC Elmhurst on April 25 and sponsored by CCUIC of Northern Illinois Conference  & the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago.

YAM Award - application deadline extended

Do you have a Ministry with Young Adults you want recognized?

The Northern Illinois Conference Young Adult Ministry Team seeks to recognize and celebrate those churches and other UM-affiliated faith communities that are engaged in meaningful relationships and ministries with young adults, ages 18-35.

Thus, we've developed the Golden YAM award, an opportunity for those throughout the Annual Conference to direct our attention toward the fruit of this work, so that we might give thanks for it, and allow it to inspire others in their endeavors.

To nominate a ministry and their leaders go to:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CHK3B32 . Applications will now be accepted until May 14.

The Golden YAM will be awarded during the Young Adult Luncheon at Annual Conference on Friday, June 7 at noon.

Kit Challenge

Help us get from "Almost there" to "We're gonna need a bigger boat" [quotes from Star Wars and Jaws

This week's biggest standouts: Chicago Southern and DeKalb!

Both districts met or nearly met their district challenge this past week.  Chicago Southern had previously uncounted commitments that helped boost their total to 92% . What a gift!  DeKalb district was asked to bring 500 hand towels. To date, 1045 towels are committed!

Continuing Needs:

Elgin: 2354 band-aids left

Aurora: 632 Bars of Soap left

Chicago Southern: 78 washcloths left

The gifts of many means we have exceeded the need for washcloths, hand towels, toothbrushes, and 1-gallon bags. At the Friday afternoon breakout at Annual Conference, we will create as many kits as possible with all of the extra materials.
