Hallelujah, Christ is Risen!

Gerald Manley Hopkins, an English poet, wrote a poem many years ago called, "The Wreck of the Deutschland."  It's a poem dedicated to five exiled Franciscan nuns who died on a ship that sunk on the way to the U.S in 1875.  It tells of suffering and death, much like the Titanic, in light of the experience of Good Friday and then the hope of eternal life on Easter.  Yet the last few words of the poem are: "Let (Christ) easter in us..."

So when someone says something to hurt us, let Christ easter in us.
When we're filling out our income tax return, let Christ easter in us.
When a family member gets on our last nerve, let Christ easter in us.
When we disagree with others, let Christ easter in us in the way we speak to and about them as well as how we behave.

Let Christ easter in us.

Happy eastering!

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
