Special Session of Annual Conference
|
Online Registration is now open for the Special Session of Annual Conference to be held on March 16, 2013 at Elgin First United Methodist Church (216 Highland, Elgin, IL 60120). Click here to register.
The Session will start with registration at 8:30 am, opening welcome and worship at 9:30 am and we will convene around noon.
The purpose of this special session is to discuss an important but complex recommendation that comes to us from a joint meeting of the Conference Council on Finance and Administration, the Conference Board of Trustees, and the Cabinet on February 9, 2013.
The proposal is a means to refinance mortgages for qualifying local churches in order to redirect their resources from building indebtedness to ministry within the local church and beyond. Click here for more details...

Bishop Appoints New DeKalb and Rockford Dist. Superintendents
|
Bishop Sally Dyck has appointed the Rev. Young-Mee Park to DeKalb District Superintendent from First UMC Oak Park and the Rev. Lisa Kruse-Safford to Rockford District Superintendent from Cornerstone UMC in Elgin.
The appointments take effect July, 1, 2013.

Statistical Reporting Due

The Statistical Report is the annual report of all church membership changes; worship, education and outreach activity; and expenditure and income details. It is due every year on February 20th. Statistical reports not only help the NIC and UMC track trends over time, it is also the basis for the Apportionment calculation.
Thank you to the 133 churches that have submitted the report on time! The remaining 234 churches are encouraged to complete the report as soon as possible. Login information can be found by clicking here. Other questions should be directed to your District Administrator.

Upcoming Turnaround Boot Camp
|
 The Turnaround Church Boot Camp will be held Saturday, March 16, from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at First UMC Elgin (216 E. Highland Ave., Elgin, IL). Everyone from the Annual Conference Special Session is invited to a FREE preview from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Day 2 will be held Sunday, March 17, from 8:00am to 3:00pm at Crowne Plaza Hotel (2875 N. Milwaukee Ave., Northbrook, IL). Pastors must register with at least 3 lay leaders. Each team of four costs $150 before March 1 and $200 after March 1, plus $50 for each additional attendee. Registration includes materials and lunch, but participants must make their own hotel and travel arrangements. Interfaith Bus Tour registration open

 Get on board and join Bishop Sally Dyck for this year's Interfaith Bus Trip. The Adult trip is March 22 and 23, with the youth portion being on Saturday March 23. Each year, the interfaith bus trip gives adults and youth the opportunity to interact, ask questions, share faith, and experience what it means to live in a multi-religious society. The trip this year will visit many religious sites in the Western suburbs including a Hindu temple, Buddhist meditation hall, and Sikh Gurudwara (among other sites). Space is limited.

The Hispanic/Latino Church Planters' Boot Camp will be held from Friday, April 19, to Sunday, April 21. The early bird price is offered through March 8 at only $175 for the planter. Regular prices are $275 for the planter, $50 for the planter's spouse, and $120 for each accompanying person.

The number of grandparents who are raising their grandchildren continues to rise. For many grandparents, it is more difficult to parent the second time around. They may be faced with raising their grandchildren at a time when their age, poor health, and limited finances compound their problems. In spite of these challenges, grandparents do their best to help themselves and their grandchildren succeed. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren conference provides helpful information for those second-time parents.
