Responding to Crisis  - The Church is There

As millions are coping with the aftermath of Sandy this week, the United Methodist Church is with them.  As the clean-up efforts continue, we are there to help by giving a helping presence as well as cleaning buckets, hygiene kits, and health kits.  This tangible response is our physical way of showing our love of God and our neighbor.

Ways to respond to this disaster:

  • Pray for those impacted by the storm and involved in disaster response.
  • Give to UMCOR.  Because UMCOR has many centers in the Northeastern U.S., it is best to give directly to UMCOR.
  • To give, you may make a check payable to the NIC with the Advance #3021787 in the memo line and mail it to M. Bunt, ste 1820, 77 W. Washington St., Chicago, IL 60602.
  • Other ways to give financially. Donate on-line to UMCOR click here
  • Text the word RESPONSE to 80888 to give an immediate $10 donation.
  • Call 1-800-554-8583 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Eastern time to donate by phone.

Free Webinar on Adaptive Leadership
Rev. Susan Beaumont

November 5, 2012

7:30-8:30 pm CST

What is Adaptive Leadership?

The term Adaptive Leadership is being overused and misused so frequently that we are in danger of diminishing its potential for helping us evolve. In this webinar we will explore the concept as it has been developed by Heifetz, Linsky and Grashow.

We'll define what it is, examine the key assumptions that undergird it, and explore the skill sets required to enable true adaptive leadership in the Church. Leadership:Rev. Susan Beaumont, Senior Consultant, The Alban Institute

Rethink Church Reclaims Christmas- Churches encouraged to update Find a Church profile

In a new advertising campaign for Advent, United Methodist Communications invites local churches to Reclaim Christmas and Rethink Church with a sermon series and a website re-design focused on simplifying the season and asking families to spend time, not money.

The advertising campaign leads faith seekers to a re-designed and mobile-compatible RethinkChurch.org homepage to launch on November 4.

Churches are encouraged to update their Find-A-Church profiles with special Advent activities to be prioritized above others on the homepage when a visitor in their area lands on RethinkChurch.org.

To download the free sermon series by the Rev. Mike Slaughter and to update your congregation's Find-A-Church profile to include Advent activities, visit umcom.org/differentkind
