 | IL International Trade Center Director, Laura Flamm |
Illinois SBDC International Trade Center at ICNC presents to the Illinois Chapter of the US Green Building Council on International Opportunities in Green Building
On Thursday, June 19t, Laura Flamm, Illinois SBDC ITC Director at ICNC, presented as part of a panel at the Annual Meeting of the Illinois Chapter of the US Green Building Council. The event was hosted by McDonald's Corp. at their Oakbrook headquarters and attended by Illinois' active and growing green building community. She discussed the ITC's recent research on opportunities for US green building products and services in foreign markets, highlighting the demand for Illinois-based expertise in markets such as India, China, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates. Illinois was recently recognized as the state with the most LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) per square footage per capita. The distinction places Illinois at the forefront of the movement for sustainable building design, construction and operation and positions Illinois-based small businesses to take advantage of international growth in the green building industry.

Land and Buildings for Development: Look West
The Kinzie Corridor is growing, and as real estate options get more expensive on the east end, more and more companies are looking west for their new locations or expansions. The quickly-developing area between Western and Kedzie Avenues could be the perfect new home for your business. Several available industrial buildings are seeking new occupants, and the City is willing to write down the sale price of many publicly-owned lots for new development. Most properties are eligible for TIF, Enterprise Zone, and 6B benefits. Click the image below to see some City-owned lots available for development, or call or email Ben at ICNC to discuss your real estate options in the Kinzie Corridor.

Sales Tax Waiver on Building Materials: Claim Your Enterprise Zone Benefits!
You may not know it, but if your business is located in red on this interactive map, you may be entitled to forego the sales tax on materials you buy to improve your property (including lumber, windows, paint, concrete, and much more). As part of an Enterprise Zone, virtually all of the Kinzie Corridor has been targeted for reinvestment. The city and state make a number of development incentives available to Enterprise Zone companies to purchase and invest in their buildings, including a waiver on the real estate transfer tax.
Taking advantage of these incentives is easy! The building materials sales tax waiver only requires a one-page form found here, while the real estate transfer tax can be waived as you close a property purchase.
For assistance on claiming these benefits, call or email Ben at ICNC today!
