ICNC Supports Features of Fulton Market Innovation District Plan
ICNC is generally in agreement with the recommendations put forth in the first published draft of the Fulton Market Innovation District plan, released by the Department of Planning and Development on May 20th. The plan takes crucial steps towards protecting the District's place as a robust center of industrial employment. The plan is available to read here.

ICNC supports the following plan recommendations:

Adopt the Fulton Market Innovation District land use guidelines.

The plan protects the district's existing industrial uses and Planned Manufacturing District while encouraging jobs-driven growth. A proposed "Subdistrict B" for the PMD raises concerns, however: more information is needed.

Invest in facilities for regional food products and businesses.

Creating a new incubator facility that specializes in food would provide an important support structure for burgeoning businesses. We also support the related recommendation to increase Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) and TIFWorks program funding.

Coordinate a series of public infrastructure investments.

We support the plan's recommendation to make much-needed infrastructure improvements in the area. These should be prioritized over streetscape beautification projects.

For more information on the Fulton Market Innovation District plan, contact Ben Spies at [email protected].

IMD Blue Line Stop to get $23M Upgrade

City Council recently approved a measure to make major improvements to the Illinois Medical District stop on the CTA Blue Line, just south of the Kinzie Corridor at 430 S. Damen.  The station, which has seen a 53% ridership increase in the last five years, will receive platform and building upgrades and the addition of an elevator.  The $23 million project will be paid for by TIF funds from the Central West district in which it is located.  There are currently no plans to port funds from the nearby Kinzie Industrial Corridor TIF District.
