Small Business Improvement Fund Returns to Kinzie Good news for property owners in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor TIF District: the Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) has once again been enacted in our area! This popular grant program provides matching contributions of up to $150K for capital improvements to industrial properties. SBIF-eligible expenses include interior buildouts, roof and window work, masonry, HVAC, environmental remediation, and more. Applications will open for a limited period beginning with a kickoff event to be announced, so start thinking about projects and watch your inbox for upcoming messages about SBIF. ICNC recently played host to a small business-oriented budget roundtable event with Mayor Emanuel, City Treasurer Stephanie Neely, and several area business owners. Topics included Chicago's small business microlending program, interactions with the Small Business Center, and the upcoming city budget.

This eight-month program begins in March, with application open to single, working women currently earning $10-$40K, with clean driving and criminal histories. On the Job Training: up to 90% Wage Reimbursement for Hires The On the Job Training (OJT) grant program can subsidize the wages you pay a new hire for up to their first six months as you train them into their new position. Reimbursement of up to 90% is available for job candidates who have been laid off from their previous positions through no fault of their own. This program has created dozens of jobs at ICNC Member companies, so if you're considering a new hire, email Ben@industrialcouncil.com or call (312) 421-3941 to learn more about OJT.

A Reminder About Lot Weeds and Vegetation
A friendly reminder to property owners: the Department of Streets and Sanitation has the right to issue tickets of $600 per offense for growth of weeds in excess of ten inches on occupied or unoccupied lots. The city broadly defines weeds as plants "unwanted or out of place". These tickets may be issued without warning or redress if the vegetation is trimmed after the fact, so spare your wallet and take care of it today!
