Greetings!
Hello from the End of the Road, Ely, Minnesota. We want to remind you about our Free Standard Shipping offer this season. Just enter code FREEX12 and we'll take care of the shipping! "Beauty is composed of many things and never stands alone. It is part of horizons, blue in the distance, great primeval silences, knowledge of all things of the earth. It is so fragile it can be destroyed by a sound or thought. It may be infinitesimally small or encompass the universe itself. It comes in a swift conception wherever nature has not been disturbed." Sigurd F. OlsonThis time of year, when you can almost walk on the water, we paddle memories instead of lakes. Taking up my favorite paddle I find myself drawn towards the silence and solitude that this expansive wilderness provides. There are only a few of these places left, where you can find yourself in the exclusive company of flora and fauna for days on end. It is refreshing, indeed rejuvenating to find yourself separated from the fast pace and intrusion of society. The BWCAW is good for the spirit, good for the heart and a great place to remember what is really important in life. Fishing, camping under the stars, sitting by the fire, traveling highways with no traffic signs and no exit ramps. Soon the ice will be thick and we will be cutting holes through it to fish. Some will even drive out on it. It remains alive and full of movement as though it were a Summer day. The rhythms are just slower and colder. Underneath with the fish, lie our memories of trips and Summer escapes. |

No where else can you see the stars and Northern Lights so clear at night than the wide open wild spaces of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Our backyard is void of man-made lights and it is far from the plumes of industry that cloud and obscure the natural beauty of night's canvas. There is something ethereal, surreal about the constellations when you view them in solitude. Join us for a magical time as we track the power of the great bear and map the path of Orion's belt accompanied by the haunting backdrops of the calls of the common loon and howls of the elusive timber wolf. Imagine lying on your back on a comfortable therm-a-rest gazing at the limitless vaulted inky black ceilings brimming with stars.
Discover Cassiopeia, the Twins, Andomeda, Orion, Taurus and more. Learn how to mark Alpha Stars such as Betelgeuse and Polaris to find their different mythological shapes in the sky.
Would you like to... - View the night sky uninhibited by light pollution? - Learn about constellations, both where they are located in the sky and the stories behind them? - View the Milky Way in all of its splendor? - Have a chance to see the Northern Lights? - Explore and fish the BWCA? - Learn canoe camping techniques from our expert guide? - Relax and unwind in a beautiful wilderness setting? If you answered yes to any of these questions, our Stargazing in the BWCA trip is right for you.
Since the beginning of time, humans have been drawn to the night sky. The vastness of the universe holds instinctive intrigue. Join our 6 day 5 night Boundary Waters canoe trip to gaze upon the heavens like never before.
Our trip will take you far away from the sights and sounds of the city, into the heart of the wilderness, where our stargazing will be undisturbed by light pollution. We will leave Ely one day after a New Moon for optimum darkness. The constellations and Milky Way will pop out of the night sky like many have never seen.
Enjoy the night sky like you never have before in the quiet solitude of the BWCA. Bring the kids. This trip is sure to create memories that will last a lifetime and inspire wonder.

If you need help with routing, choosing a canoe from our fleet, or want to sign up for one of our Guided Group Trips, call or email. It's a great time to have discussions with us about any detail of a trip.
· For you Quetico trippers, we can reserve permits for you 5 months in advance. It's been like that for a number of years, but since December is when we call for May trips, we thought we should remind you as the reservation dates are coming up quickly.
· Boundary Waters permits - We can start reserving them on a first-come, first served basis starting on the last Wednesday of January. Anyone who wants to get their reservation in with us so we are ready to reserve your permit that date, have a little time to contact us. But, the sooner the better to get things set with you. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Fall Lake and Moose Lake permits are still part of a lottery process. Starting December 19th, an application can be entered into the lottery. The actual lottery will then take place on January 22nd for these paddle and motor permits. After this lottery, these permits then fall into the first-come, first served process on the same date for all the other BWCA permit. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to call Drew or Adam.

We have a lot of folks ask us why we don't have our complete selection of fantastic Women's Clothing online. Our short answer is that it is extremely hard to keep it on the retail floor. Women come from all over Northern Minnesota and from further south, just to shop and talk fashion. This Winter, Kerri, our clothing buyer has put up online some of our new favorites and we wanted to make sure you know they are available. Size runs are small and we sell out quick so make sure to shop early and often.
Today we are featuring items from Lole and Prana. Make sure you scroll down and follow the link to our newest Women's Lifestyle section online.
