"Dia di Los Meurtos" in Mexico

An exciting, upbeat holiday for Hispanic people, "Day of the Dead" brings a healthy perspective to the topic of Death & Dying.

Instead of mourning the loss of loved ones, people in Mexico celebrate the departed by holding a picnic in their honor - IN THE GRAVEYARD. They tell favorite stories of the departed and eat their favorite foods.

Please bring a photo of your departed loved ones to place on our "Day of the Dead" altar this Sun.

"Day of the Dead" keeps the spirit of loved ones alive.  My family was blessed  to enjoy the friendship of a big cat named Max.  He was a healing cat who applied pressure and warmth to any part of your body that was hurting.

We felt a terrible loss when he died.  Now I remember him so fondly and his amazing gifts!

One time, our son, had been in Europe for six months.  On his return, Max brought a huge rat to him inside the house. Kevin, seeing the cat approach with the giant rat hanging out his mouth, let out a big scream. Max flung the rat in the air and retreated leaving us to deal with the "gift".

WATER CONSERVATION NEWS
Report from Ventura County WATER SUMMIT held last week:

When the well runs dry, we shall know the value of water
- Benjamin Franklin

Recent predictions about a possible El NINO bringing us rain have proved to be totally unpredictable.  The weather evidence keeps changing and is so atypical that we now know any report is unreliable.

While both Ventura County and the State of California are scrambling to deal with potential new water sources, the predictions are dire.  The price of water will go up and with it the price of food!

Agriculture Reports for Ventura County -
Farmers are now planting fewer crops and looking to growing crops that require less water.  So Lima Beans rather than Strawberries may be in our future.

Substitute Native Plants for Lawns -
The biggest waste of private water use is still green lawns.
The bad news is the astroturf which looks amazing, is not really good for the soil or for your home.  Installing astroturf causes the ground to turn to a cement like hardness and reflects heat into the residence.  Best solution is replant lawns with beautiful native plants and grasses.

WHENEVER YOU TURN ON WATER, REDUCE THE STREAM TO A TRICKLE BECAUSE EVERY DROP OF WATER IS AS PRECIOUS AS GOLD!!!
