This past Sunday, we talked about how we are constantly choosing the life we will be living now and in the future and the fact that in each moment, we have a choice. Behind every event and condition in our lives, there lies a cause. All that happens in our experience comes about as a result of an inner cause giving rise to an outer effect which always corresponds with the mental cause behind it. A negative idea or belief becomes realized as a negative circumstance, and conversely, a positive idea or belief produces a positive experience. Life mirrors our thinking. The outer accords with the inner. Given that, our biggest challenge in life then seems to be keeping our focus on the good we want to bring into our experience and not giving any air time to our negative thoughts and beliefs. It's not so easy to always do that in this human experience. It is human nature to get upset and a million thoughts flow in and out of our minds per minute. The best we can do is set an intention to be more conscious about the content of our minds. We can usually tell what we are thinking by the emotions that get stirred up within us.

It's actually a very simple formula; if you want more joy and happiness in your life, think more joyous and happy thoughts. We can ask ourselves questions to bring us into that feeling tone. What could I do right now to bring more joy into my life? What was I doing the last time I felt great happiness? My mother used to have an expression, "Life is what you make it." She was right!

Well, this will be my last message to you as Spiritual Director of the Symphony of Life! I have so enjoyed communicating with you in this way. My message to you is this.......don't be afraid to take a risk and step into something new. We are here to live a joy-filled, expansive life. We are the only ones who can get in the way of that. We can decide today to have a life worth living. It is our choice!

Our affirmation for the day: Today I choose thoughts that bring me happiness and joy!

Spiritual Cinema Night

Don't miss our film tonight, Sept. 27, at Casa de la Luna, 710 La Luna Avenue. The feature is The Highest Pass, a 2011 documentary about seven young men who set off on motorcycles across the highest, most dangerous roads through the Himalayas to face their fears and find their truth.

Written by Adam Schomer and directed by Jon Fitzgerald, a graduate of the Film Studies program at UC Santa Barbara, the film won the Audience Choice Award at the 2011 San Diego Film Festival, Best Documentary at the Naples Film Festival, and the Spotlight Award at the Topanga Film Festival.

Doors open at 6:30 and the movie begins promptly at 7:00 pm. A discussion will follow the screening. The event is by donation ($5-$10 suggested although no one is turned away for lack of funds).

New and Revised Symphony of Life Youth Program!

We are pleased to invite you and your children to our new Symphony of Life Youth Program. We will be utilizing an award winning curriculum designed especially for New Thought Sunday School programs. We have created a more colorful and spiritual atmosphere in the children's area and have set up monthly themes that will be expanded upon each week through a variety of fun exercises. The monthly themes include such topics as creating sacred space, nature, self-worth, gratitude, giving and many others! Our teachers have created a more structured environment where youth of different ages can come and learn age appropriate prayers, songs, stories and lesson activities that will help bring spiritual principles into their daily lives for greater success. We invite you and your children or any children you know of who might enjoy an exciting, creative experience to join us on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

PRACTICAL MYSTICISM, Tuesdays at 7 pm at Rev. Susan Burrell's home. The class is 10 weeks long and the cost is $250 not including the books. This course is an exploration of mysticism and provides the framework for the student to live the mystical life here and now. Each student sets a personal intention for his/her life and allows a uniquely personal path of mysticism to evolve. Emphasis is given to four practices: meditation, spiritual mind treatment, the practice of the Presence and the witness consciousness. Call (805) 390-9664 to enroll. Rev.
