"You have to do your own growing
no matter how tall your grandfather was."
Abraham Lincoln
And boy, are we growing, the Symphony of Life and Rev. Karen Wylie. The seeds have been planted and now we watch with excitement as they germinate. Sunday was a wonderful day. Our service was filled with new energy and infinite possibility. We are in a period of transition and expansion. I invite you to come check us out; I will be speaking on September 22 and 29.
As the Spiritual Director of the Symphony of Life, writing this newsletter has been a very personal experience for me. I feel like I know you all, even though most of you I've probably never met. I've enjoyed sharing the news of the day, upcoming events and various inspirational ideas with you. This has been one of my favorite duties in my role as Spiritual Director.
As I move into my new global ministry, I will be sending out a monthly newsletter and would love to keep in touch with you and let you know what is on the horizon for me. If you wish to keep in touch with me, watch for my Symphony of Life newsletter eblast next week to all you newsletter recipients letting you know how to sign up to receive my upcoming monthly newsletter.
In the meantime, this Symphony of Life newsletter will keep coming to you to inform you about the exciting things happening in our community. I've come to greatly appreciate the importance of communication. Walt Whitman said, "Reexamine all that you have been told.....dismiss that which insults your soul."
In love and peace,
Rev. Karen Wylie

Spiritual Cinema Night
Don't miss our next Spiritual Cinema Night taking place on Friday, September 27, at Casa de la Luna, 710 La Luna Avenue. This month's feature is The Highest Pass, a 2011 documentary about seven young men who set off on motorcycles across the highest, most dangerous roads through the Himalayas to face their fears and find their truth.
Written by Adam Schomer and directed by Jon Fitzgerald, a graduate of the Film Studies program at UC Santa Barbara, the film won the Audience Choice Award at the 2011 San Diego Film Festival, Best Documentary at the Naples Film Festival, and the Spotlight Award at the Topanga Film Festival.
Doors open at 6:30 and the movie begins promptly at 7:00 pm. A discussion will follow the screening. The event is by donation ($5-$10 suggested although no one is turned away for lack of funds).
Symphony of Life Photographer - Are You Out There?
Brad Brown, our current Symphony of Life Photographer sent this message to me to forward on to you.
"My name is Brad Brown. Many in the Symphony of Life family know that when I am in Ojai (I live in Los Angeles) I take photographs of the Sunday morning gathering. I try to be as inconspicuous as I can be. It is a wonderful way to serve the community...taking photos...and it is a real thrill and blessing to me too. I get to see the faces of all you gracious people and be right in the middle of exciting events. No one minds if I step right up and take a picture of all the birthday folks for the month.
"Going through the photos after the service to send them on for the newsletter, I get to see those moments in time again. It's a great job and we are looking for a few more people who want to try it out. Whether you are an old hand at photography or would just like to learn a new artistic skill, you can do it! It really is just 'point and shoot.' On the other hand, you can be as creative as you want. If you see me, ask me about this, or tell the staff you are interested. In any event, remember this: SMILE!"
New and Revised Symphony of Life Youth Program!
We are pleased to invite you and your children to our new Symphony of Life Youth Program. We will be utilizing an award winning curriculum designed especially for New Thought Sunday School programs. We have created a more colorful and spiritual atmosphere in the children's area and have set up monthly themes that will be expanded upon each week through a variety of fun exercises. The monthly themes include such topics as creating sacred space, nature, self-worth, gratitude, giving and many others! Our teachers have created a more structured environment where youth of different ages can come and learn age appropriate prayers, songs, stories and lesson activities that will help bring spiritual principles into their daily lives for greater success. We invite you and your children or any children you know of who might enjoy an exciting, creative experience to join us on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
