Dances of Universal Peace
After service this Sunday, we will have a demonstration and an opportunity to participate in the Dances of Universal Peace. The dance circle will be held right after service in our sanctuary. It will be fun to join in this sacred and joyful experience.
Symphony of Life Spiritual Cinema
This month's Spiritual Cinema Night, taking place on Friday, September 27, will feature The Highest Pass, a 2011 documentary about seven young men who set off across the highest, most dangerous roads through the Himalayas to face their fears and find their truth.
Filmmaker Adam Schomer was studying with a young Indian guru, Anand Mehrota, who one day turned to him and said, "I've been wanting to ride my motorcycle to Ladakh, the Manali-Leh road that crosses many treacherous mountain passes and leads to the highest mountain road in the world, Kardungla....You want to come?"
Schomer didn't ride motorcycles, but his answer, nevertheless, was yes. As it turned out, Mehrota was testing a Vedic prophecy. "There was an energy (in my birth chart)," Mehrota told Yogi Times. "The astrologer, who was a very old master, saw it as either death or an awakening." Mehrota chose to interpret the prediction as a gift--a very conscious present to not waste time on unnecessary things. To not try to please or live from ego, because the egos time here is very limited and it will be annihilated.
"Die now so you can live. Die to inner conflict. Die to fragmentation. That must die so we can truly live now. When we try to escape death, we are using our life as a waiting room," Mehrota continued. "That is not living."
Written by Adam Schomer and directed by Jon Fitzgerald, a graduate of the Film Studies Program at UC Santa Barbara, the film won the Audience Choice Award at the 2011 San Diego Film Festival, Best Documentary at the Naples Film Festival, and the Spotlight Award at the Topanga Film Festival. It has also inspired a five-part TV mini-series to air later this year.
Doors open at 6:30 and the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. A discussion will follow the screening. The event is by donation ($5-$10 suggested although no one is turned away for lack of funds). Casa de la Luna is located at 710 S. La Luna Avenue, here in Ojai.
Symphony of Life Youth Program
We've made some wonderful improvements to our Sunday morning youth program and extend an invitation to the young people you know to come check us out at the Symphony of Life. Our teachers have created a more structured environment where youth of different ages can come and learn age appropriate prayers, songs, stories and lesson activities that will help bring spiritual principles into their daily lives for greater success. We invite you and your children or any children you know of who might enjoy an exciting, creative experience to join us on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
