The other morning, I read the above quote along with the following beautiful writing by Practitioner Kathy Juline from United Centers for Spiritual Living. I share it here with you that you might receive these words as a personal message from God to you, for it is the truth of your being.

"When a new baby is welcomed into your family, the gift of life is easily recognized as being incredibly precious. Whether a new little son or daughter--or, for some, perhaps a cuddly kitten or playful puppy--this new life is cherished and cared for with great love and tenderness. The birth of new life, whether child or pet, is felt to be a miraculous event, wonderful beyond imagining.

Why not start each new morning with an awareness that, like the tiny baby, you yourself are also newly born today? Why not see each new day as a miracle of new birth? Truly, each day, like a parcel yet unopened, brings a fresh beginning for you. You enter into it like a newborn marked 'fragile,' not because you break easily or are frail or weak, but because you are so very precious and valuable. That which is precious and valuable is handled with care. It is treated gently, treasured, and protected from harm. When you treat yourself in this way, refraining from any unloving thoughts or behaviors toward yourself, you are recognizing and honoring the God in you. You are acknowledging your true essence as a divine being.

Each day, you are reborn into an ever more evolved expression of your divinity. Each new day, you arrive marked 'fragile' because as the Life of God you are incredibly precious.

Affirm this for yourself today: How precious I am! I know that my life is the Life of God, and I am grateful to be aware of my value as a divine being. I am loving toward myself."

Symphony of Life Spiritual Cinema

This month's Spiritual Cinema Night will feature Shakespeare Behind Bars, a 2005 documentary about 20 male inmates in a Kentucky prison who make an unlikely theater troupe. The film follows the inmates as they cast themselves in, rehearse, and perform Shakespeare's The Tempest, a film fittingly about forgiveness. Winner of eight film festival awards, the film will be shown on Friday, August 30, at Casa de la Luna, 710 S. La Luna Avenue here in Ojai. There is parking on the property.

Shakespeare Behind Bars gives us a rare look at men behind bars. We watch as the inmates choose roles that reflect their lives and the crimes for which they were convicted. Indeed, they claim that the roles "pick them," which seems to be true, as many of them experience powerful epiphanies while exploring their characters.

As we witness the inmates reflect upon their roles and their lives, we get to examine our own preconceived notions about criminals. The film doesn't attempt to excuse or glorify these men, but rather, to reveal the complexity of the human psyche through them. Though capable of brutality and violence, they are also capable of kindness, generosity and faith.

Doors open at 6:30 and the movie begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. A discussion will follow the screening which will be led, if her schedule permits, by Shana Hagan, the film's cinematographer.

The event is by donation ($5-$10 suggested although no one is turned away for lack of funds).

Symphony of Life Youth Program

We've made some wonderful improvements to our Sunday morning youth program and extend an invitation to the young people you know to come check us out at the Symphony of Life. Our teachers have created a more structured environment where youth of different ages can come and learn age appropriate prayers, songs, stories and lesson activities that will help bring spiritual principles into their daily lives for greater success. We invite you and your children or any children you know of who might enjoy an exciting, creative experience to join us on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
