I'm back from our Mystical Mediterranean Cruise and I delight in sharing some pictures with you. It was a great journey, inside and out. Always when I return from such journeys, it takes me a bit of time to process all that has happened and all the ways in which I've been affected by what I've seen and experienced. My favorite port (and there were many wonderful ones) was Kusadasi, Turkey, where we visited Ephesus. At the height of its prosperity, in the Golden Age (2nd Century AD), more than 300,000 people lived and worked in Ephesus. It monopolized the wealth of the Middle East and was one of the principal ports of the Mediterranean. As a commercial and financial power, it was also the seat of intellectual advancement. Monuments were erected. Theaters were filled with spectators. Many temples were built for the worship of their gods and goddesses, including Artemis, the virgin daughter of Zeus. As the city's protectress, Artemis' temple was so spectacular it was considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Nearby, we also visited the House of Mary. Legend tells us that Saint John escorted the Virgin Mary to the shores of Ephesus somewhere between AD 37 and AD 45 following the death of her son on the cross. At age 64, Mary passed away in the small home which has now been totally restored. Currently, it appears more as a small stone chapel. Though some historians dispute the account of Mary's burial in Ephesus, several popes have come to bless this home and there is a very sacred feeling as one enters the front door. We were unable to take pictures of the interior of the home. Please enjoy the pictures which represent many aspects of our entire trip.

Symphony of Life Youth Program

We've made some wonderful improvements to our Sunday morning youth program and extend an invitation to the young people you know to come check us out at the Symphony of Life. Our teachers have created a more structured environment where youth of different ages can come and learn age appropriate prayers, songs, stories and lesson activities that will help bring spiritual principles into their daily lives for greater success. We invite you and your children or any children you know of who might enjoy an exciting, creative experience to join us on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
