Sacred Service Saturday Our next Sacred Service Saturday is coming up on Saturday, July 13, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Ojai Valley Woman's Club. We will be working in the backyard pulling weeds, clipping bushes, raking and gathering up debris in order to create a beautiful space for our children to be outside. Bring your gardening gloves, trowels, rakes, clippers, and plenty of water. We always have a good time in service to our Ojai community! New Workshop - Making Peace With Age, Ills, & Death Brock Travis, PhD teaches us how to masterfully cope with serious life changes and transitions. He will be doing a workshop at the Symphony of Life Spiritual Center, 441 East Ojai Avenue, on Sunday, July 14, 2013, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Check out the beautiful flyer below! A Morning Meditation Retreat Rev. Karen and Practitioner Randee Vasilakos will be facilitating a morning meditation retreat tomorrow Saturday, July 6, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. This retreat is for and about you, offering quiet walks, readings, stillness, rest and renewal and an opportunity for you to come back to the Self. It will be held at Meditation Mount, 10340 Reeves Road, Ojai and offered for a love donation ($10 suggested). For info, contact Rev. Karen Wylie at (310) 968-8928. SOLSC Book Club Everything the Symphony of Life does is just plain fun and that is certainly true of our book club. This is a great group of people who enjoy reading and having stimulating conversations about the books we read. We will be meeting tonight, July 5, at 7:00 pm to choose a new book for the month of July. All are invited to join in at any time. Please contact Peggie Williamson, (805) 640-2450, for more information. New Symphony of Life Youth Program This Sunday, we are starting our brand new youth program, and we welcome children of all ages. We are creating a more structured environment of age appropriate prayers, songs, stories and lesson activities that give our youth the tools they need to bring spiritual principles into their daily lives for greater success. Monthly themes will include creating sacred space, nature, self-worth, gratitude, giving and more! We are very excited to launch these changes as of Sunday, July 7th. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming your children into our program on Sundays! Member Profile We decided that we would like to tell you a little about some of the great folks who attend the Symphony of Life and we have decided to do it through this new section of the newsletter called our Member Profile. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Rev. Geri Woodson who is fairly new to the Symphony of Life. She has been a student of spirituality and metaphysics since she first read the Science of Mind text by Ernest Holmes in 1985. She loved taking classes at the church she was attending at the time. Before she knew it, she had completed all the courses and was ordained a minister in 1993. She has enjoyed teaching classes, leading guided meditations and performing weddings. Conducting funeral services is especially close to her heart. She loves telling people's stories, and creating a celebration of their life. Rev. Geri was a registered nurse for many years. She left the working world after her second child was born, and has spent that time volunteering in their many activities. She was the leader of her son's Boy Scout Troup and a co-leader of her daughter's Girl Scout Troop. For ten years she was an active participant in the Art Trek Program at Sunset Elementary School, teaching art to the kids. Her children are both teenagers now. Rev. Geri is now a Coordinator along with Lisa Love of our new Youth Program and has also joined the choir. She serves in our Prayer Ministry and is a member of our Board of Trustees. She says she enjoys being of service and is happily putting her ministerial hat back on and likes the way it feels. She says she is grateful for the warmth with which the Symphony of Life has welcomed her and she feels at home. Welcome home Geri!
