OUR DANCE PARTY IS COMING!
It's this Saturday night, May 18, 7:30 to 11:00, at the Woman's Center, 441 E. Ojai Avenue in the middle of town. It's our Spring Dance and Talent Show! We have a great band lined up, and some fresh talent you probably have not seen before. There will be a little wine, some song and definitely lots of joy! So put your dancing shoes on, grab a few friends or come by yourself, it doesn't matter. You will have a great time no matter what. Friendship Month May is Friendship Month at the Symphony of Life. Don't forget to bring a friend or friends on Sunday! This is the month we've particularly set aside to invite our friends and family to join us for our Sunday services. Think of someone you would like to bring and extend the invitation! We are building our spiritual community! Volunteer Appreciation Month This past Sunday, we celebrated our beautiful and dedicated Hospitality and Creativity Teams. We are so grateful for our volunteers.......the folks who sign up to serve in our community! Guest Musician Sheila Nicholls Pianist Sheila Nicholls brought her amazing talent and creativity to the Symphony of Life this past Sunday! What a fabulous Mother's Day celebration! We are in deep gratitude and appreciation for her gifts and talents and her willingness to share them with the Symphony of Life!  Tithe Presentation We were proud to present our Certificate of Appreciation and February tithe check to Rick Ricksen, President of the Ojai Academy for the Arts. The Symphony of Life tithes to local non-profit organizations that are doing good work in the community. We are grateful to Rick for his vision!  Choir Rehearsal We are delighted that Sabastien Montgomerie has agreed to be our interim choir director! We are meeting Friday evening, May 17, at 4:30 p.m. at the home of Sherry Owen, 506 Shady Lane, Ojai. If you love to sing, this might be just the activity for you! Symphony of Life Spiritual Cinema Night This month's Spiritual Cinema Night will feature Scared Sacred, an award-winning documentary in which filmmaker Velcrow Ripper (Fierce Light, Occupy Love) travels to the "Ground Zeros" of the planet to ask whether it's possible to find hope in the darkest moments of human history. The film deftly weaves together stunning footage with haunting memories and inspirational stories to create an exquisite portrait of the human spirit rising to meet the most challenging circumstances. The film will be shown on Friday, May 31, at Casa de la Luna, 710 S. La Luna, here in Ojai. Scared Sacred has won numerous awards, including "Best of the Festival" at the New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival, where festival director Rene Broussard called it "One of the most cathartic and powerful films I have ever seen. It literally changed my life and sense of spirituality." Doors open at 6:30 and the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. A discussion will follow the screening. The event is by donation ($5-$10 suggested although no one is turned away for lack of funds). Symphony of Life Book Club Our next Symphony of Life Book Club meeting will be held on Friday, June 14, at 7:00 p.m. We will be discussing our current book selection, A Fine Balance, by Rohinton Mistry, and choosing a new book for the month of July. You are welcome to join in at any time. If you like to read and are interested in having a stimulating conversation about the books you read, you'll enjoy this group.
