Emmet Fox tells us that study and research are well in their own time and place, but no amount of either will get you out of a concrete difficulty. Nothing but practical work in your own consciousness will do that.   That's because God does the work and your particular limitations and weaknesses do not matter. You are only the channel through which the divine action takes place, and your part is first to get yourself out of the way.

The only thing you have to do is stop thinking about the difficulty, whatever it is, and think about God instead. "If you can do this, the trouble, whatever it is, will disappear. It may be big or little, it may concern health, finances, a lawsuit, a quarrel, an accident, or anything conceivable; but whatever it is, just stop thinking about it, and think of God instead. Simple yes?  It never fails to work when given a fair trial."

SACRED SERVICE EVENT 

Don't forget about our Sacred Service Event coming up this Wednesday, January 30, 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Community Building located at the corner of Bristol Road and Ojai Avenue! The Symphony of Life will be providing, cooking and serving a full-course dinner (including appetizers and dessert) to 25 members of the Ojai Valley Family Shelter. That reminds me....if you signed up to donate food for the event, please bring the food to church this Sunday, January 27. Begin your year in service as a giver!   We are going to have some fun. Patricia Cardinali is going to play the guitar and sing during dinner!  

Spiritual Cinema Night 

Don't miss our Spiritual Cinema tonight, Friday, January 25, at Casa de La Luna Retreat Center, 701 S. La Luna Avenue in Ojai.   We are screening Waste Land, a poignant film about the transformative power of art.   The film follows contemporary artist Vik Muniz as he returns to his native Brazil to photograph the lives of catadores. You'll find out who they are tonight!

Waste Land was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary. It won the Audience Award for World Cinema Documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, the Amnesty International Human Rights Watch Award at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival, and the Best Documentary Award at the Grande Premio de Cinema Brasileiro.

Doors open at 6:30 and the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. The event is by love donation ($5-10 suggested) although no one is turned away for lack of funds. There is parking on the property.

Silent Meditation Retreat 

Randee Vasilakos, our Symphony of Life practitioner, will be facilitating a Silent Meditation Retreat at Meditation Mount on Saturday, February 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be readings and walks in nature. Bring your lunch (also in the silence). This is a wonderful opportunity to spend some quiet time in the stillness with the Self. Cost: $25 prior to February 2; $30 thereafter or at the door. Symphony of Life Book Club 

Our book club selection for the month of January is Pudd'head Wilson by Mark Twain. We will have our next meeting to discuss the book on Friday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m. If you love to read, you will enjoy reading and discussing books with our current book club members. Mystical Mediterranean Odyssey

June 27 - July 6, 2013

Join Rev. Karen and Suzi Kesler Lula on an amazing Mystical Mediterranean Odyssey from the holy city of Rome, Italy to Istanbul, Turkey, cities filled with architectural wonders and monuments to the faiths that inspired them. There will be morning and evening meditations throughout the voyage, and a workshop at sea, led by Rev. Karen and Suzi. As we go back in time, we will take our own personal inward journey in discovery of the mystical in us. Below is the flyer which contains more information.
