| ELECTRONICS THEFT GROWING AMONG TRUCK THIEVES |
|
Technology has had a tremendous impact on our life. In the past three years alone, smartphones, iPads, laptops, netbooks, and a host of other electronic communication devices are in demand to make our lives faster, more entertaining, and connected. That is good.
What is not good is cargo thieves realize this and electronics have become the number one targeted type of items by these groups. According to an article in truckinginfo.com, even though overall cargo thefts were down, the theft of electronics was up. This is not to say that thieves are no longer targeting other items, because they are. What the data is showing is that electronics are a high demand item that is relatively easy to fence.
I wouldn't let my guard down just because your item is not on the thieves most wanted list. Thieves depend on opportunity so follow the basics of cargo safety and your chances of being a victim go way down. I am attaching a link to a blog we have that features some of these tips as well as a link to more tips on Truckinginfo.com.

WATCH OUT FOR THIS TRUCKING SCAM
|
|
While there are sophisticated scams against truckers, you seldom see a story like this. Well, according to an article in LandLine magazine a trucking company has been the victim of a computer hacker. A Pennsylvania trucking company was robbed in the amount of $8000.
Here is how they did it:
- Hackers broke into the trucking company website
- Passwords were stolen using a Trojan style virus via email
- The passwords were to an account used for issuing checks
- The hackers initiated 5 checks from this account

WHERE'S THE BEEF...
Apparently It's Being Stolen Off Of Trucks!
|
Three of my favorite types of trucking or transportation articles are as follows:
- Crazy ways people avoid tolls
- Crazy things that end up on the road from trucks
- And of course...the latest truck theft story
I am not glad that someone got robbed, but sometimes the creativity of the crime is impossible to ignore. Other times the target of the cargo gets your attention. Well a story from Truckinginfo.com definitely caught my attention.
Due to increased food prices, thefts of meat are on the rise. In 2010 to 2011 the number of thefts of this product quadrupled. Food has just become more expensive and more valuable.
Granted, it is not as exciting as a big bank heist but it does hit home. I don't want to pay more for meat because it is stolen. I would bet no one does. So here are some basic things to look out for if you haul meat on your truck.
- The largest number of thefts occur at the end of the year
- States with huge cargo volume are predominately at the biggest risk with the exception of Iowa. The rest of the locations to be careful include:
- Southern California
- South Florida
- Houston
- Atlanta
Be safe and guard that meat!
