Orcas Island becomes 'Shakespeare Island' Again!

 

Shakespeare Festival 2013 Come enjoy the Shakespeare Festival on Orcas Island, featuring costumed performers, an Eastsound Parade, street theater, and a performance of 'Julius Caesar' by The Seattle Shakespeare Company.  The fun is happening on Thursday, March 21, Friday, March 22 & Saturday, March 23.

The Stage on the Green, located in the heart of the island, will be home to numerous festival activities all day Saturday, March 23, including stage performances and music of the period. That evening, a performance of Julius Caesar will be presented at the island's version of "The Globe" - the 200-seat Orcas Center, the community's performing arts facility.

Join the Parade - Islanders & Visitors Invited to Join In!Shakespeare outfit

 

No festival is complete without a Parade! You are invited to take part in the Eastsound Shakespeare Parade on Saturday, March 23 at 11 am.

 

We will parade up North Beach Road, and end at the Eastsound Village Green.  Unpack and dust-off that Elizabethan garb you've stuck in the closet... we want you in the Parade!    

 

To be in the parade you need to sign-up: just email the Chamber, or give us a call and we'll give you all the details.

Dinner with Seattle Shakespeare Company at Sazio di Notte
  • Thursday, March 21; 6 pm - 9:30 pm

The Second Annual Shakespeare Festival kicks off with a unique dining

experience at Sazio di Notte (website) in Eastsound.  The Seattle Shakespeare Company's troupe of actors will join us for this inspired - and specially-crafted 5-course dinner, as well as provide insight into their upcoming performance of 'Julius Caesar.'

Chef/Owner Bill Patterson will prepare a signature meal, featuring fresh, local food (Menu PDF).  As Patterson notes, "While our inspiration comes from the Italian countryside, the main source of our fresh ingredients is Orcas Island -- using our own locally-raised, and organic produce."   

 

This dinner will have limited seating for 50 people only, and includes wine (Sazio's excellent wine list also available for an additional charge).  The cost per person is $125.

'Combat Acting' Class & 'Julius Caesar' for Students

The Seattle Shakespeare Company will hold a special class just for Orcas Island teens.

This will be an action-packed afternoon, as the visiting actors demonstrate and perform stage moves showing how actors convincingly - and safely - fight on-stage. The students then take to the stage to try their hand at this realistic rendition of 'Combat Acting.' 

 

'Julius Caesar' performance for High School Students

  • Friday, March 22; 1 pm (Orcas Center)

Orcas students are provided a special treat with this preview performance of 'Julius Caesar' by the acting troupe from Seattle Shakespeare Company.    

'Combat Acting' Class for Adults
  • Friday, March 22; 4 pm (Outlook Inn's Victorian Room); $30 per person

Now it's the adults' turn!  The actors from the Seattle Shakespeare Company prepare for an adventurous group, as adults are encouraged to learn how they can unleash their inner thespians, and prepare to do combat on-stage!  "Throw a punch ... take a punch ... swing a sword ... manage a mace ... or handle a battle axe!"


You are invited to sign-up and be a part of this special acting class.  Limited to 30 adults, this promises to be an experience you won't forget!

Eastsound Festival, Farmers Market & Parade 
  • Saturday, March 23 (starting at 11 am)

The Orcas Island Shakespeare Festival really takes off today!  Costumed street performers, wandering musical minstrels, and festival gaiety overtake the Village of Eastsound.  You're invited to take part in the fun.

  • 11 am - Parade through Eastsound
  • 11:30 am - William Shakespeare arrives at the Village Green
  • 11 am - 4 pm - Festival fun on the Village Green, with music, performers and an Orcas Island Farmers Market 
Seattle Shakespeare Company performs 'Julius Caesar'
  •   Saturday, March 23 (7 pm reception; 8 pm performance) @ Orcas Center 

Julius Caesar

The Festival concludes on Saturday night with a performance of 'Julius Caesar' by the Seattle Shakespeare Company.  Ticket holders are invited to join us for a wine reception at the Orcas Center beginning at 7 pm. The show gets underway at 8 pm.  Buy your tickets for this classic political thriller at Orcas Center or Brown Paper Tickets
