 Journey Ideas |
Do you know of a troop leader who needs additional meetings ideas for journeys? Our sister Girl Scouts at Northeast Texas Council have added a cool resource to their web site. CLICK HERE for meeting plans for each journey, and for every program grade level. These are samples that can help a troop volunteer guide the girls in their journey activities.
Remember to ask the girls to contribute their ideas to the meeting plans too. The best planned meeting will not be well received if it isn't of interest to the girls. Let them take the lead!

 The 2013 Fall Product Sale
The 2013 Girl Scout Fall Product Sale is just around the corner, and we're gearing up for our best year ever. The theme for the 2013 Fall Product Sale is "What Can a Girl Do? Be Your Best You!" Through the Fall Product Sale, girls are learning great skills, earning troop start-up funds and individual girl rewards, and supporting other girls throughout our council. 100% of the proceeds of the Fall Product Sale support girls in our council.
Through the Fall Product Sale, girls are learning great skills, earning troop start-up funds and individual girl rewards, and supporting other girls throughout our council. 100% of the proceeds of the Fall Product Sale stay within our council.
Our goals for 2013 are to have a 10% increase in participation and a 5% increase in overall sales. In 2012, we had just over 300 troops participate in the Fall Product Sale. That's great, but it's still only a fraction of the council's 600+ troops. We have LOTS of growing room for the Fall Product Sale.
What can YOU do to help your SU reach its Fall Sale goals?
- Encourage all the troops in your SU to give it a try. Remind them that the Online Magazine Program is the easiest way to participate - troops get the most bang for their buck with no money to collect and no products to deliver.
- Expect that every troop will participate in at least one piece of the Fall Product Sale.
- Help troops that are just forming get connected with the SU Fall Sale Coordinator so they can get started. Remember, it's not too late for troops to get started even after the sale has begun.
- Set aside time at your October SU Meeting to remind troops to get involved in the Fall Product Sale.
More information about the Fall Product Sale can be found on the council website at www.gsgcf.org. If you have questions, please feel free to contact your SU Fall Sale Coordinator or Corinne Wright, Director of Sales, for assistance.

Did you know there's a lot troops can be doing now to get ready for their best ever Cookie Program? Each month we'll share a Gearing Up for Great Sales tip sheet that you can share with new and returning troops to help them reach their goals and have a great Cookie Program. There are lots of ways you can use the tip-sheets to help troops "gear up": send them by email, print and provide at a SU meeting, or use the tips as a conversation-starter for grade-level meetings.

2014 Cookie Super Troop Program
Back by popular demand, the Cookie Super Troop Program is returning for the third year in 2014. Troops who achieve Super Troop status will be awarded an additional $.05 per package in troop cookie proceeds. Being a Super Troop takes a little work and planning, so we're sharing the 2014 Super Troop requirements well in advance. Check them out and share with the troops in your SU so they can achieve Super Troop status this year. In 2013 we had 54 Super Troops. Let's see if we can double the number in 2014!
If you have questions or need more information about the Cookie Super Troop program, please contact Corinne Wright at corinnew@gsgcf.org or 941.921.5358 ext. 340.

Attention Fort Myers Shop Customers
Beginning in November, the Fort Myers Shop will transition to a traveling shop destination with reduced hours of operation, reflecting historically lower sales during the winter months. During the months of November and December, the shop will be open every other Tuesday, 10am-6pm and the third Saturday of the month, 10am-4pm. (Please check our hours on the council website for specific dates).
Although the shop hours will be reduced, please be assured that customer service is always our first priority. The shop staff is always happy to help in any way possible and can be reached via phone or email to assist you as quickly as possible. Orders to be shipped can be placed through our council's updated council shop, while orders to be picked up at the council offices or from a membership specialist can be sent via email to shopfm@gsgcf.org or shopsrq@gsgcf.org for processing. We will continue to do anything possible to fulfill your shop needs.
This change will also allow the shop staff to be more flexible in offering a shop presence at large meetings and SU events throughout the council. While we can't be at every event, if you have an upcoming SU event and would like to discuss shop options, please contact Cathy Brown well in advance of your event so that we can discuss the possibilities. You can contact Cathy by email at cathyb@gsgcf.org or phone 800-232-4475 ext. 313.

Volunteer Recognition
|
To be a volunteer, it takes...
Generosity, a willingness to give your time to others
Understanding, because their lives might be very different from your own
Empathy, an ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes and feel what they must feel
Compassion, to truly care about making someone else's life better
Patience, because the process doesn't always go as smoothly as it might
Dedication, to stick with the project and see it through
You've shown these qualities and so much more,
so thank you for all that you do.

There are many awards available. Check our GSGCF website for information and forms. Take a moment to nominate your favorite volunteer. The Thanks Badge Award honors an individual whose ongoing commitment, leadership, and service have had an exceptional, measurable impact on meeting the mission-delivery goals and priorities of the council or the entire Girl Scout movement. A previous recipient was active in Girl Scouts for 15 years as a troop leader and was a very active service unit volunteer. She had an active troop over the years guiding a group of Daisies all the way to the completion of their Silver and Gold Awards. She taught workshops on proper flag etiquette. Monthly news articles were submitted to the local papers by her. She was instrumental in the success of many service unit events and actively participated in council committees.
Do you know a volunteer similar to this?
Be sure to recognize her/him today!
