What is Early Bird?

You might have heard your troop leader mention the term "Early Bird" or maybe you have seen it on our website and wondered what that meant.

Early Bird is term we use to remind troops and their families to make a commitment to the Girl Scout program and pre-register early for the new 2013-2014 Girl Scout membership year. This pre-registration incentive program begins on April 16th and ends on June 14th. All girls that pre-register will receive a cute Early Bird patch!

We encourage you to reach out to your troop leaders and ask them what you can do to help the troop qualify as an Early Bird troop.

Remember, that your daughter does not have to be a member of a Girl Scout troop to participate in the movement. If she is looking for an alternative to troop participation, please visit our website to learn more about the other flexible ways she can stay connected. Pre-registering her for the new Girl Scout year is easy, simply go to our website to make the commitment online. For registration assistance, please email the help desk at helpdesk@gsgcf.org.

Did you know that volunteer appreciation week is celebrated the week of April 21st-April 27th? That's right! This is a great time to say thank you to all the marvelous volunteers that devote and dedicate so much time and energy in delivering a quality Girl Scout Leadership Experience to your daughters.

Here are some ways you could show recognition to your daughter's leaders:
  • Work with your daughter and/or the girls in her troop to write and post a special comment on the council's brag board found on www.gsgcf.org.
  • Have all the girls in the troop write a special thank you to the leaders, cookie coordinator, and other troop volunteers.
  • Become a friend of Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida's Facebook page and post a special thank you with photos of the great leader's.
  • Visit the Girl Scout Shops in Sarasota and Fort Myers to purchase items your volunteers would really enjoy. There are lots of items to choose from for all budgets.
  • Consider becoming a volunteer for the troop. Offer to work with the girls to organize the troop's award ceremony, snack schedule, or get certified in canoe, kayak, or outdoor skills . Ask the leader(s) how you could help make a difference.
  • Simply say Thank You to the leaders for helping your daughter grow and develop her leadership.

Congratulations to all of the Girl Scouts,
families, and volunteers who made the
2013 Girl Scout Cookie Program a success!

Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida sold 1,094,255 packages of cookies, including more than 34,000 packages to be donated to the military through Mints for the Military. 117 girls in our council sold 1000+ packages of cookies, including 9 girls who sold more than 3000 packages each. Way to go!

Congratulations to Katie Marchetti, 13 Top Cookie Seller!

For the second year in a row, we are pleased to announce that Katie Marchetti is our 2013 Top Cookie Seller! Katie worked hard this season and sold 3165 packages of Girl Scout Cookies. Katie is a Girl Scout Cadette in troop 798. Her troop is saving their cookie earnings this year and planning a trip in the future to either Australia or Europe. Katie enjoys all the different Girl Scout cookie flavors, enjoys camping, and loves to make customers happy by selling Girl Scout Cookies. Katie's biggest tip to girls who want to reach high sales goals is to "have persistence, patience, and stamina."
