While Williston has undergone dramatic changes during the past few years, the City's love for baseball has stayed the same.  Crowds of more than 3,000 people have attended the 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series at Aafedt Stadium.  The event has featured excellent baseball, food and entertainment and the venue is looking its best!

Jackson Credits Babe Ruth Baseball for Starting Coaching Career

Legendary basketball coach Phil Jackson credits coaching Babe Ruth baseball in Williston with setting the foundation for his career. Jackson returned to his hometown of Williston on Friday to speak during a banquet that kicks off the 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series.  In a news conference before Friday night's banquet, Jackson said Williston's Babe Ruth baseball program gave him his first coaching job.  "Those memories of coaching kids and going through those long days of coaching both morning and afternoons and then evening baseball games are probably what got me started in the business," said Jackson, adding that he also had groundskeeper duties.  Read More.

Postmaster General Patrick Donohoe toured North Dakota's Oil Patch Wednesday and pledged to improve service to the rapidly growing area."I'm sorry this has taken so long, but we will get this stuff resolved," Donohoe told community leaders during a roundtable meeting in Williston. Residents of Williston and surrounding communities told Donohoe about inadequate post office facilities, mail that's delayed or never arrives, and waiting in line for hours to pick up a package.  Read More.

Williston Basin pioneer Continental Resources has completed enough exploratory work on the lower benches of the Three Forks to conclude that the play is massive, full of oil, and more.  "It is looking commercial over a very large geographic area, where we think that at least one and in many cases two of these deeper benches will be commercially productive," said Winston Frederick Bott, Continental's president and chief operating officer.  Read More.

Williston is now the fastest-growing U.S. city with a population between 10,000 and 50,000 people -- to the continued amazement of longtime residents of what was once just another North Dakota farming town.

Mercy Medical Center continues to expand its health care services to accommodate the region's growing needs.

A growing Williston-area community means different things to different people. The on-going change has lots of service sectors expanding, with health care as no exception to the rule.  "A Williston of 40,000 people has very different health service needs, compared to a Williston of 20,000 people," says Matt Grimshaw, president of Mercy Medical Center. Corcoran School Hopes to Preserve After-School Program

T.J. Corcoran is trying to establish an after-school program in Williston.

The owner of the Corcoran School is trying to salvage Williston's after-school program after it failed to receive a grant to fund it.  The Corcoran School is an independent early education and after-school education institution.  The Williston Public School District No. 1 and T.J. Corcoran are discussing the possibility of a collaboration.  "I'm hopeful that we'll be able to work out an arrangement in the next few days so we can launch an after-school program in mid-September," said Corcoran.  Read More.

 

Potential School Busing Project Needs More Riders

The Corcoran School is urging parents of school-aged children who would like busing to register their children as soon as possible.  "We have not realized the busing enrollment that we anticipated based on our survey results," says T.J. Corcoran, the owner of the Corcoran School. "This is despite setting busing rates at a level that the vast majority of the respondents found affordable."  Corcoran speculates some parents may be waiting to see if the after-school program is restored.  Read More.

 

Massage Therapist Enjoys Work in Oil Patch

Former Kentucky man Kaz Matsubara followed up a complete career change with a move to North Dakota.  Matsubara moved to Williston in October 2011 and began working as a massage therapist almost immediately.  He's had a steady stream of customers for the past year at Jackie's Therapeutic Massage & Day Spa in downtown Williston.  Even the slower days when he first arrived in Williston were busier than in his previous work place in Kentucky.  Read More.

Enbridge Pipeline Expansion Celebrated, but Leaders call for More

Enbridge Pipelines employees paused recently to mark the completion of two projects that nearly doubled the amount of oil the company transports out of North Dakota. State and federal officials joined the celebration, but urged Enbridge to move forward with additional projects to move even more Bakken crude. "We come here to say congratulations, but we also come here to say we need more," said Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D. The recently completed Bakken Pipeline Expansion Project adds 145,000 barrels per day of pipeline capacity and the new Berthold Rail Facility transports another 80,000 barrels a day.  Read More.

Neset Consulting Builds New Office Space, Community Gathering Area in Tioga

A company that's been providing well site geology services to the oil industry for more than three decades is moving into new, more spacious headquarters in Tioga soon.  Neset Consulting Service was started by Kathy Neset in 1980.  It now has two divisions and more than two dozen employees; and a need for more space.  The new building has a big, open feel - and includes a large area that Neset hopes will be a community gathering spot.  Read More.

 

Dickinson to Scale Back New Apartment Construction

Apartment building in Dickinson may be slowing down.  Community Development Director Ed Courton told a Utah-based group who planned to build about 900 apartment units in Dickinson, that the City was near capacity with apartments.  Courton said all existing, under construction and planned apartment buildings were considered in the city's decision.  Read More.

 

Allegiant to Provide Bismarck-Orlando Flights

Allegiant Airlines will offer nonstop flights between Bismarck and Orlando, Fla., this fall.  Starting Nov. 23, Allegiant will have two flights a week between the Bismarck Airport and Orlando-Sanford International Airport.  Flights will operate Wednesdays and Saturdays; flights will depart Orlando at 1:35 p.m. Eastern time and arrive in Bismarck at 4:35 p.m.; flights will depart Bismarck at 5:15 p.m. Central time and arriving in Orlando at 10 p.m.   Read More.
