HART Welcomes New Board Member 

The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) is excited to welcome Mickey Jacob, FAIA, executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at BDG Architects to the HART Board of Directors.  


The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners
appointed Mickey Jacob, FAIA to represent Hillsborough County on the HART Board of Directors. Mickey is scheduled to attend his first HART Board of Directors meeting on November 3.  

 
"I am very excited with the appointment of Mr. Jacob to the HART Board," said HART Interim Chief Executive Officer Katharine Eagan. "His appointment brings a great combination of professional experience and insight."

Mickey Jacob's career in architecture spans more than 25 years. He has served as Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at BDG Architects since 2013, where he is responsible for the development of the firm's strategic direction and client relations.

Prior to his work at BDG Architects, Mickey and his partners formed Urban Studio Architects, an Architecture and Interior Architecture firm with a focus on sustainable design practices in a variety of project types.

Mickey has a host of honors and recognitions. Throughout his tenure in leadership positions at American Institute of Architects (AIA) Tampa Bay, AIA Florida, AIA Florida/Caribbean Region, and AIA National, Mickey has understood the value of building relationships by collaborating with his colleagues, attaining leadership positions and advocating for the profession. In recognition of his work and commitment to leadership, Mickey was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 2009. Additionally, Mickey was elected the 2013 President of the American Institute of Architects. 

 

As a recognized leader in the community, Mickey is active in a variety of business, professional, educational, and charitable organizations and is a regular speaker on leadership and the importance of civic engagement. In addition to his volunteer service as Transportation Committee Co-chair and Board Member of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, he has served on several community boards, including the: City of Tampa Creative Industries Council; City of Tampa Economic Competitiveness Committee; City of Tampa Public Arts Committee; Tampa Downtown Partnership; and Florida Aquarium Government Relations Committee.  
 
A native of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Mickey has a Bachelor's of Science in Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture from The University of Detroit School of Architecture while on an intercollegiate golf team scholarship.

The HART Board is responsible for setting policy and making decisions for the Authority on matters ranging from system operations, service planning, fare structure, finance, customer service
, and is made up of 13 volunteers who are appointed to represent Hillsborough County (seven seats), City of Tampa (three seats), State of Florida (two seats) and City of Temple Terrace (one seat). Officers of the HART Board (chair, vice chair and secretary) are elected every year.
