 NORTH SHORE LIJ HOTLINE NOW OPEN:
 HURRICANE SANDY HEALTH HAZARDS

A new hotline that addresses potential environmental health hazards associated with Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath is now open:

9 AM to 5 PM
Monday through Friday

The hotline provides information about exposure hazards due to Hurricane Sandy flooding, damage, or post-storm renovations. These hazards may include:

  • Asbestos
  • Pesticides
  • Mold
  • Lead
  • Sewage
  • Water with undetermined contamination
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Chemicals (eg, solvents and paint thinners)
  • Home heating fuels (eg, gasoline, oil, and kerosene)
The hotline is linked directly to the North Shore LIJ Department of Population Health, and inquiries are addressed by environmental health experts. Physician referrals are available, if needed. 

The hotline cannot assist with medical emergencies.
