Coach's Corner

by Fred Albrecht

August is sailing along at another record clip. We have more reps making more commissions than ever before. We just completed a week where we sent out a record $345,000.00 in commissions. This sets another record for Proforma Albrecht.

Congratulations to all of our reps who consistently earn more every week, every month, every year. It is no mistake, the reps and owners who attend the national convention on average earn more than those who do not attend. I often expound on the value of the education sessions and the trade show with the largest and most diverse group of the best suppliers in the industry. I have to agree with Peggy Johns who told me her most valuable time at these events is the times she gets to spend one-on-one in conversations over coffee with her peers. That is something we simply cannot replace with webinars and videos or hand outs! We hope you will plan to join us next year in Orlando, July 19 - 22, 2015.

Let's get charged together!

CHARGED!

Each week, we plan to feature some of our "Charged Up" Sales successes from reps who have booked orders over $5,000.00. Each time one of our Account Executives in our office receives an order from their sales rep they get to "Sound the Charge" to pump up the entire office. They then give me a copy of the order so I can let you all know, what's hot! Note, the more information you all share with your account executive, the more I can share with the rest of the company. If you have any projects over $5,000.00- please provide some details on the project and we will share those as well. Check out the creativity our reps are providing to their clients!

This Week's Charged Up Applause goes to:

Jo Puckett - Her order for a power company, 25,000 custom shower timers from supplier Phenix Direct. Stuart McClelland helped Jo source this great custom product. Sale comes in at $28,505.00.

Cathy Rossner - A  Canadian Media Company - 1100 Travel Mates from Hirsch Gift ASI 61005, a sale worth $20,350.00.

Tracy McClure - 2 orders from a "Reactivated" Financial Services account. Tracy's reactivated a past $100,000.00 account by keeping in touch with her "gift box" mailings.

Here are two orders, 500 Moleskin Notebooks from Gemline ASI 56070 worth over $9,000.00 and 2500 custom 3D Lobster Key Tags for a custom project from Phenix Direct, Tracy worked with Stuart to dream up the idea, pitched it, and got an awesome order worth over $6400.00.

John Snodgrass - John's marketing service company ordered 5000 custom plastic tags from Gill Studios, ASI 56950 who printed the tags, sent them to Snugz for assembly and distribution. Tina, John's account executive, was kind enough to share with us the scope of the project worth $6,000.00.

John's client, a marketing company, came to John with a challenge. Their client (FIAT) needed a product to promote their "Free Ride" program. This key fob will be placed in strategic Hotel rooms offering a "Free Ride". The guest will be able to call a number and get a "Free Ride" to any local destination in, you guessed it, a FIAT. The goal is to provide as many free rides as possible amounting to a "free test ride" in the Fiat. Great concept, John's idea won the order! Way to go John and Gill and Snugz!

Who is Phenix Direct?
Phenix Direct is a direct importer of promotional items from China, assisting distributors in landing and filling large quantity orders.  We are also proud to be a 9 year Proforma MVPLP and the longest tenured direct import vendor in the Proforma PLP program.
*Our Value Proposition
We are a "customer intimate", low-cost, high service provider of promotional products shipped directly from factories in China and we are flexible, transparent, and easy to work with.
*Our expertise results from a combination of:
Experienced team that has held positions all through the supply chain - from corporate promotional products buyer through factory worker
Selling promotional products to Fortune 500 companies as a distributor
Wholly owned office in Hong Kong, staffed by experienced back end sourcing, and independent third-party quality control and logistics personnel

What Qualifies as an Import Opportunity?
*An opportunity that is a $5,000+ Distributor cost opportunity (add your margin for sale price)
*An opportunity that has 90days + until product is required by the customer
*Most existing ASI products that you would like to pay less for
*Original (customer designed) products or modified existing products
*Products that are outside the ASI/promotional product "norm"
(commercial/retail items)

When should I look to Import?
*When you have a customer with a $7,500+ budget for an item
*Competitive/large opportunity bid situations
*When you need better product costs - 30%-60% cost savings over domestic prices
*Predictable annual client purchases
*Inventory or "company store" programs, and/or multiple logos across base products

Where is Phenix Direct located?
*Unlike our name would suggest, our HQ is in Atlanta, GA and operate during normal USA business hours and beyond
*Phenix Direct also has their own office and employees in Hong Kong that manage the sourcing of items and monitor each job in progress.  This is important because these are our own employees that are beholden to us and our customer's needs and are not a Trading Agent (used by many importers) that may side with the factory in times of turmoil or disagreement.
*Online  - we can be found at www.phenixdirect.com

Why Phenix Direct?
*We've been distributors before. We understand it is your reputation and credibility on the line with your customer. We help you manage expectations and keep your word.
*We manage all logistics and customs for you
*Our Hong Kong & Atlanta offices bridge the cultural, language and time differences so you don't have to.
*Our relationship will be transparent. We will consistently communicate with you openly and freely throughout the order cycle and manage all of the details.
*We use an Independent Third-Party Inspection agency to QC every order before shipping
*We don't miss event dates.

How do we get started working together?
*For specific items that need quoting - simply email a picture of the item, a brief description of the item, material (if known) and size desired to smclelland@phenixdirect.com - most items take 24-48 hours to get quoted overseas

We'll have some questions so we can provide the most qualified concepts possible to fit your client's needs.

CPSC Commissioner Robinson Applauds PPAI's
Product Safety Efforts During Summit Address

Marietta Robinson, commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), was the keynote presenter during the luncheon at the PPAI Product Safety Summit in Boston. She spoke to a full room of suppliers, distributors and product safety specialists about the work the CPSC is doing to ensure safe consumer products and to assist companies toward that goal.

One of the ways to do that is by working with groups like PPAI, she said, praising PPAI's efforts over the past several years to educate industry practitioners through a variety of tools such as guides, articles, webinars, education programs and the Product Safety Summit. She added that PPAI's program is a shining example of how organizations can get it right.

PPAI President and CEO Paul Bellantone, CAE, said, "CPSC Commissioner Robinson's attendance at PPAI's Product Safety Summit is both an acknowledgement of PPAI's commitment to product safety and compliance, and the healthy relationship we're building with the agency. Having our members hear directly from CPSC leadership about the importance of our Product Safety Awareness Program builds confidence in the Association's activities and the investments we continue to make in this area."

The Product Safety Summit wrapped up its two-day program Thursday afternoon. Follow PPB Newslink's next edition for a full recap of the event.

Avoid the "Just Following Up" email

Sending the "Just Following Up" email without any sort of value or call-to-action is not good. When you send an email, you should ask yourself, "How much value did it provide?" Or "Did I have a call-to-action?"

Emails like that are annoying and disruptive to the recipient. And in todays world of constant interruptions, you can't afford to interrupt a prospect without providing some value or at least including a call-to-action.

Recently, the team over at Signals by HubSpot launched an entire SlideShare on the topic of avoiding the "just following up" email. You can view it below:

The concept of sending multiple "checking-in" emails is quite interesting. In fact, data from Referral Squirrel shows that:
*2% of sales are made on the First contact.
*3% of sales are made on the Second contact.
*5% of sales are made on the Third contact.
*10% of sales are made on the Fourth contact.
*80% of sales are made on the Fifth to Twelfth contact.

However ...
*48% of salespeople never follow up with a prospect.
*25% of salespeople make a second contact and stop.
*12% of salespeople make three contacts and stop.
*Only 10% of sales people make it more than Three contacts with a prospect.

The trick here is making repeat contact with your prospects in a way that adds value. Nobody - you or your prospect - gets any value from an email that just says "just checking in." It's a wasted use of your time, and wasted space in your prospect's inbox.
