August Sales were again very brisk with our year-to-date sales exceeding last year by over 10%, double the industry average. For the month of August, we have a new sales leader, Stacey Steele who booked very close to $120,000.00 and is tracking to increase her sales by 49% for the year. Cindy Hite was a very close second with $101,000.00 in sales, another awesome performance by our perennial Million Dollar Club leader. Rounding out the top 10 include Cathy Rossner, newcomer Anu Kelly and Tony Hernandez, All positing more than $50,000.00 for the month. Congratulations to all our sales leaders. Keep up the hard work.

Success Story
As you know we have done business with Vitran Express for several years, but always with their Sales Department. In January this year, while we were at the PPAI show in Las Vegas, we got a call asking us to come in for a presentation to their Safety Director. As it turns out they had just finished a Senior Staff meeting and had approved a Safety Award for their qualifying drivers. Anyone with 5 or more years of accident free driving was going to receive a special jacket. The jacket would have the Vitran logo embroidered on the left chest with the driver's first name under it in script lettering. Additionally there is a U. S. flag patch on the left sleeve and a Safety patch with the number of years on the right. Further, all drivers with a one year or better safety record would receive a special lapel pin with the logo and number of safe driving years on it.
We immediately ordered jacket samples from Sanmar, set up the meeting and headed back to Dayton - driving. The meeting was scheduled for January 31st at 1 PM but the evening before we had a snow storm and I-70 east was closed to Pittsburgh. I forgot to mention Vitran is in a suburb north of Pittsburgh and our office is south of Dayton. They were kind enough to reschedule the meeting for 8:30 the next morning. We drove to Pittsburgh in the afternoon when the roads opened, spent the night and were at the 8:30 meeting with our samples. The Safety Director immediately told us that he wanted to use Cintas and was only talking to us because of the favorable report from the Director of Sales/Marketing. When we showed our samples he launched into "based on past experience" this is not a very good product line. We launched a "you have to be kidding" response pointing out Sanmar's growth to over a billion dollars, business/product integrity, a family business, national in scope, etc. etc. They relented and we pointed out our current "decorate on demand" Vitran store and that we could add the jackets to the program at no cost up front except for the patches and lapel pins. After some discussion they liked the plan and we walked away with an order for up to 820 jackets at between $65 - 70 dollars each. The other orders for lapel pins and the safety/flag patches were firm and totaled over $10,000. The profit margin for the entire project is in the 40 - 45 percent range.
The program went live in March; to date we have sold 543 jackets for over $37,000 plus the $10,000 in pins/patches. We plan to remove the jacket from the Company Store on October 1st but are already planning for the 2014 program which we expect to start in mid to late February, 2014. Vitran advises another 250 or more jackets in 2014. The total program will be about $70,000 but ongoing.
The entire program has run smoothly because of our inside co-worker Teresa Ratermann and the suppliers: Sanmar, Two-Fish Apparel and the pin/patch folks at Mike Brothers.
