Pipe dope and Teflon tape; maybe not
Not all plumbing fittings are suited for the use of pipe dope or Teflon tape to prevent leaks. Some examples include: compression fittings, sink or lavatory drains, and newer style stainless braided supply lines with rubber fittings. Read the instructions carefully before application.

Event-based cleaning - fingertip control Aprilaire 8910 Home Comfort Control and 8476 thermostat
The new 8910 Home Comfort Control and 8476 programmable thermostat have been strong performers this year. Our customer response and user satisfaction to these two programmable controls have been excellent. Homeowners who installed these controls with whole-home media air cleaners, can now take advantage of a higher level of indoor air quality and comfort at the touch of a button. Doing the same activity (shown on-screen as Air Cleaning or Clean Air), these two controls offer a means to turn on the fan of the system during various "events." Homeowners can choose when to turn on the system and use the fan to move particulate matter (via the cold air return) to the whole-home media air cleaner for filtration. Running independent of a heat or cooling call, air can be drawn-in for a pre-determined period of time (determined by the user's selection).
For the homeowner, if you have guests for dinner, your child's playgroup is visiting, or you are cleaning your home, the 3-hour event setting is ideal. When allergy symptoms begin to appear, the 24-hour event setting is a good choice. To learn more, consult the Owner's Manual for recommendations and guidance.

FAQ - whole-home humidifier setting Why do I feel cool air when my whole-home humidifier is running? The Home Comfort Control is often the best selection when installing a whole-home humidifier. Not only does it provide the necessary control for automating proper humidity levels in the home, it also has a selection of settings that can best suit your lifestyle, the home's architecture, and your system's capability in delivering proper moisture levels. With an installer setting of "Heat Only," the humidifier runs only when the heat cycle is running. However, it can also be initially set to "Heat or Fan", or "Forces Fan". When set to "Heat or Fan" and the Fan is set to "ON" (user interface Home Screen), the humidifier can run whenever additional humidity is needed, using only the blower to move humidified, room temperature air throughout the home. The same holds true when the Forces Fan is selected at the time of installation.
When the fan is running without heating the air, this can feel like a breeze is blowing; it may feel cool in comparison to surrounding air, or compared to when the humidifier is run with a heat call. We believe the Forces Fan setting offers the homeowner the best choice in whole-home humidifier automation. Should you wish to change your installation setting, please contact us for more information. |
Maintenance Tip - condensate drain Ideal time to inspect your condensate drain(s) Inspection of condensate drains is a year-round task and not just for summer cooling anymore. Installation of whole-home humidifiers will often take advantage of existing condensate drains for disposal of surplus water. In some humidifier installations, we may mount a new condensate drain to the exterior that also requires clearance for water to drain properly. For those homeowners with high efficiency furnaces, condensate may drain during heating season, too. Make sure your drains remain clear of obstructions like landscape mulch, soil buildup, etc. We have also seen the end of some drains inadvertently buried in the ground; the discharge end needs to be clear to drain well. |
