Our School-year theme and new tag line "Inspired to Learn, Encouraged to Explore, Empowered to Lead" guided our programming and curricular decisions throughout the year. I enjoyed seeing the results of our deliberate and focused education at the many student exhibitions, programs, and award ceremonies this spring. In addition, during the final exit interviews with our seniors the confidence expressed in our students' voices and their competent leadership skills were striking. Mr. Iuliano and I will be highlighting many of these qualities at our Commencement address this evening.
Many of you have been asking about when the new addition will begin. We are still fundraising and are in the pre-construction phase with Bowdoin Construction Company and our architects from Perkins and Will. As soon as the School makes a decision to begin construction, I will write to our community and share the news. Also over the summer I will be sending a letter to our families about our new faculty appointments and other important information about the upcoming school year. Mr. Fuller will write to our Lower School families about changes and initiatives that relate to his division, and Middle and Upper School families will be receiving information from Mr. Rapisarda-Vallely and Mr. Neudel about schedules, courses, and program changes.
Summer is always a great time for our faculty to work on their professional practices and advance their understanding of the content they teach. Several teachers will be attending a week-long workshop sponsored by the National School Reform Faculty (NSRF). This workshop trains teachers in effective collaboration structures. It will be hosted on our campus with other educators joining members of our faculty. In addition, teachers will be taking courses, designing curriculum, traveling, writing, and learning about pedagogical approaches for improved outcomes in teaching and learning.
Thank you for your support and commitment to your child's education. I look forward to greeting you in September for the 2016-2017 School year! For those leaving our School, I send my best wishes for your children's success, and I hope you will visit us often. You will always be part of Brimmer and May. I wish you all a wonderful summer.

Lower School News

Dear Lower School Families,
Believe it or not, this is the last note to you all for this school year. As Courtney and I reflect back on the year, we can't help but feel what a difference a year makes. First of all, we weren't buried under nine feet of snow--a major plus! The Lower School faculty continued to be innovative and enhanced an already strong curriculum. Being a team-oriented faculty where everyone is a vital participant, we don't usually highlight the efforts of individuals in the weekly Bulletin; however, we are going to make an exception this week. Sarah Abrams, who is redefining the role of our Lower School librarian to include technology integration and overseeing our new Design Lab, and Ina Patel and Andrew Stattel, our new Lower School Science Coordinators, played key roles facilitating the faculty's renewal of our science program, how the faculty uses the design process, and how the faculty integrates technology into our Lower School curriculum. It was an exciting year!
Please join us this coming Tuesday, June 14, at 10:00 a.m. in the gym for our final celebration when all students will perform; we will also honor our Fifth Graders as they become Middle Schoolers! Tuesday is a dress day for all students, and the day begins at the normal time. Summer vacation will start immediately after the Closing Ceremony, which should be around 11:00 to 11:15 a.m. There will be a Reception for Fifth Grade Families immediately following the ceremony. (There is no Extended Day, but there will be a Boston bus, which will leave at 11:30 a.m.)
Reminder regarding the start of school in the fall:
- Goals conferences will be Tuesday, September 6, and Wednesday, September 7. (12:30-4:30 p.m. on both days)
- Lower School will begin on Thursday, September 8.
Have a wonderful summer!
