Patience is an underused, particularly needed quality in life. Accepting or tolerating delay seems harder to endure each day when Google can make many questions possible to answer in a matter of minutes if not seconds. Unfortunately, finding answers to the pace of a child's development is far more complex. We can research brain development and understand its stages, but we know children develop at different rates, and patience is sometimes the only answer. All too often, we try to push a student to learn a skill when only a year later, it happens smoothly and without fanfare.
Ms. Lahey, New York Times columnist and author, offers insight into the importance of patience when raising a child in her October 14 blog entitled "Give Late Blooming Children the Time They Need." Next Thursday, Nov. 12, she will be on campus to discuss the role failure plays in the growth of a child. Sponsored by the Parents' Association, Ms. Lahey will share her observations and experiences when children meet failure or discouragement. I hope you will join us for her program next week.
Sincerely,
Judith Guild

PIN Lecture Reminder
The next meeting of the Parents' Independent School Network will be held at The Noble and Greenough School in Dedham on Tuesday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m. I bring this program to your attention because the topic is "Navigating the College Process." It will be a panel presentation with admission representatives from Elon University, Connecticut College, and Northeastern University. These three institutions are very popular with Brimmer students, and each is slightly different, thus giving the audience a good cross section to learn about. This is sure to be a worthwhile evening for all parents of Upper School students as well as for those who are looking ahead for younger children.
SAT/ACT Practice Test
On Saturday, November 14, there will be a FREE New SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test held by Kaplan Test Prep to help students decide between the New SAT or ACT. The practice test will be held at Boston University and Newton Theological School at 9:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. respectively. Please see kaptest.com/satvsact to sign up today.
