Welcome to the 136th school year at Brimmer and May! Throughout the fall you will notice that Brimmer has a new look. This fall we will be unfolding new branding and materials the Marketing Committee spent the last two years developing. In part, this involved revising the school's mission and updating our common principles. I thought this letter would be a great opportunity to share the most important messaging we have at our School: The School's mission statement, our guiding principles, and our Life Rules/Core Values.
Mission Statement:
Brimmer and May is a PreK-12 co-educational day school that upholds high academic standards while implementing innovative ideas. We develop life-long learners who are informed, engaged, and ethical citizens and leaders in our diverse world.
Guiding Principles that Define a Brimmer and May Education:
Inspired to Learn: We foster active learning and challenge students to think and work independently and collaboratively to become confident problem solvers and critical thinkers.
Encouraged to Explore: We encourage students to engage their curiosity, expand creativity, explore interests, develop voice, and strive for personal best in an inclusive environment.
Empowered to Lead: We empower learners to embrace opportunities in our student-centered environment. We believe developing intellect with character prepares our students to succeed in our global community.
Brimmer and May's Life Rules/Core Values
Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Kindness
In June the administrative team met to review the feedback from the Horgan Marketing parent surveys, set annual goals, and determine the 2015-2016 year's theme. This year we have decided to highlight our guiding principles as our theme: Inspired to Learn, Encouraged to Explore, Empowered to Lead. We believe focusing closely on these three principles will enrich further the learning experience for our students.
The summer is a good time for families to help children set goals for the new school year. I encourage you to help your children set reasonable goals, to discuss how to structure time so the distractions in life are limited and time is used wisely, and to have a conversation about how they can commit themselves to working towards their personal best.
As part of this online mailing, I have included a letter that introduces our new teachers and highlights some of the administrative changes for the fall. Please also read the "Must Do" sheet, so your children are ready for the start of school. Finally, I wish to remind you that our website holds the most current information, and every family must sign in to the password protected portal of the site to view the "Resource Board," which contains information for the school year.
Thank you for your trust in our School and in the teachers who interact with your children every day. I look forward to a productive year as our teachers inspire your children to learn, encourage them to explore, and empower them to lead!
Sincerely,
Judith Guild
Head of School
