Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year. The year opens with a spirit of possibilities. 91 new students are joining our Pre-K-12 community, so we will be infusing our already wonderful School with new personalities, talents, and interests. Likewise, our new faculty and staff are bringing their own rich backgrounds in education and expertise, adding new dimensions to our talented faculty.
This summer we made several changes to our buildings in order to accommodate new curricular initiatives as laid out in our Strategic Priorities. Our Lower School library will have a refurbished atrium room (formerly known as the ALC) that will serve as one of our science and idea spaces and will encourage our students to explore the outdoor environment even more. Mr. Stattel and Ms. Patel spent the summer learning about effective Maker Spaces, and they will lead our faculty in the further development our STEAM programming. In addition, this summer we renovated May Hall to house the fifth grade. The building is now equipped with smart classrooms, breakout spaces for small group work, and community space for socializing.
The Middle and Upper School language teachers and our Director of International Students have a new home in the Almy wing. With each of the four classrooms now having a global focus and atmosphere, we will be able to integrate our language and culture study into this area of the campus. As we work to inspire our students to make interdisciplinary connections, we are excited about the many opportunities this will generate. The Writing Center moved this summer to a new home in the library where the students will be able to seek help with research and writing in a quiet room. With the daily support of the Humanities department and librarian, our students will continue to learn how to be effective, college-ready writers in the new center.
Lastly, I would like to highlight the new branding material our Marketing Committee is releasing this fall. In September you will receive a brochure that explains the new logo and how we envision its effectiveness for messaging our School's mission and principles.
I look forward to seeing you at the Opening Coffees next week at my campus home. I hope you can stop in to say hello and visit with one another.
Sincerely,
Judith Guild
